G35 as family car?

Hi all, long time lurker, brand new member. I'm like some opinions from the sedan owners. If I was buying the car for myself, it would be a slam dunk. I'd get a 05 6 speed coupe. But this car is going to be an automatic for my wife to haul our two kids around. I'm down to the G or the TL, but the TL is scaring the crap out of me with all of the quality issues. So, is the sedan a good family car? Do you find that the trunk and the backseat have enough room? I'd like to hear some opinions from your significant other as well as yourself. Thanks for your help in advance.

I just got a 05 G35 AT Sedan yesterday, so I can't report an empirical data on the G as a family car. But, I will say that I bought this car with the intention of using it as a family car. My two kids fit fine in the back seat, and the wife loves to drive this car. Trunk is a little small with the full size spare, but my wife has a mini-van for hauling around lots of stuff. My opinion is the G should make a fine family car as long as you have another car in the family with more cargo room.

The G35 is a great car but the trunk is a little on the small side. Luckily for me the wifey knows how to drive stick so we got the 6mt

The TL is a great car but it's geared towards more luxury then driving excitement.

I only have one kid, a teenage girl. We alternate between our 2000 Maxima and the 2003 G35
sedan for travel. Since we don't fly, the two cars are always traveling between Houston and
Austin, Houston and Mississippi and Houston and Florida. The G35 Sedan is a fine family
car. The Max is a little roomier, but the G35 is soooo much more fun to drive. The Sedan
will be fine for you!

The reason for me to get the G is because I have a new baby. The wife and I don't like to drive van or suv. Lucky for me too that my wife drives stick. The trunk is not too bad for a mid-size 4 door. It fits the stroller and some bulky items from Costco.

Thanks for all your replies. It's making my decision easier. My kids are 9 & 3, so the stroller is gone. I'm in the same boat as you kailep, we don't like vans or SUV's, so were looking for a sedan that's fun to drive. That's why I eliminated the Lexus ES330 after 5 minutes. It's a very nice car inside, but a little bland on the road.

As long as you aren't going on long trips with 4 people and all their luggage, the sedan is great. My Maxima had more trunk room and interior space, my wife and I absolutely love the G sedan for the 2 of us but we have had to pack conservatively when going on a trip.
Definitely a fun car to drive. It's a keeper.

I agree with GEE35X - the car is fine for short trips with kids, but fully loaded with 4 + luggage on a long trip will bring complaints from the backseat.

If you have bigger kids, the Nissan Altima actually has the roomiest back seats I've ever sat in (for a regular sedan). I've had 2 of my 6'3'' friends sitting in the back seats without their kneeds being crammed. The g on the other hand, is very compact in the rear, its just like a coupe but with two doors to get into the back seats. For a long trip, I would never want to sit in the back of this car. The seats are comfortable as hell though.

I don't think the back seat is suitable for people for long trips, that's for sure...

1 year in on my Sedan; My kids are 4yrs and 18 months respectively. This car is just fine for the kids... The only beef I'd say I have, with this being the 'larger' of our two cars (other is a VW Jetta) is that there's no way to haul larger things since I can't lower the back seats for more room. My last car was a 2dr hatchback and there was tons more luggage / junk room in that, but it wasn't a G so where's the fun in that? Incidentally I still hauled around the whole family in that car but it was a little bit of a squeeze... still more fun to drive than the Jetta though so I dealt with the squeeze

Best for the family from a space / convenience perspective? Nah, prolly not. but not the worst choice.

Best for the family from a "Daddy is happy" perspective? Yep.

My previous Lemon...Uh car was a 2003 I35. Like the Maxima, it had plenty of backseat room and trunk space. I actually enjoyed the look and size better than the G35. However, The g has the smile factor. I look forward to driving it and since my wife and I carpool, I sometimes have to drive her very slow but beautiful Audi A4 1.8 T with a CVT tranny . I enjoy the G and I think it will go down as one of Infiniti's most remembered cars. It does have a smallish trunk but is comfortable for 4 people.

I've had both Sedan and Coupe, and can tell you if you need room in the trunk and easy access to the back seat you need the Sedan.

The coupe is great, but for a family, the sedan is better.
Sorry, no significant other ......so far.

The beauty of the G sedan is it can be a family car. But when you want to have some fun, it's made for that also. My boys are used to fast driving (used to have a supercharged F150 Roush), so the wife and kids can all load in to go run errands, or I can find an empty stretch of road, and let 'er rip.

My dad has the coupe, and as GSM said, the coupe isn't too great for a family, unless you have real small kids.

how about a M45 if G35 is too small for your family...
