Anyone notice their headlights fluttering on bumps?

I've noticed that when I'm driving at night with a car in front of me and my headlights are shining in the vicinity of their plate, I can see my headlights flutter when I hit a bump. It's not extreme at all, but there is definitely a little movement on some bumps. In the garage I had the headlights on and I hit the headlight housing firmly with my fist to simulate a hitting a bump and sure enough the headlight housing move fractionally and jiggle. Both sides do it. From what I can tell, the whole headlight assembly is mounted on mostly plastic tabs therefore the housing doesn't have a very strong base to mount to. Anyone else notice their G doing this?

Mine does the same thing. It doesn't really bother me though. It is just a minimal flutter in the beam on rough bumps or pot holes. It jumps back straight in a fraction of a second. Sounds like a trend. I suppose it could be more of a distraction with a firmer ride from larger wheels and tires and drop.

This issue has been discussed in length before. The HID's do jiggle a bit over rough roads. It's normal.

Thanks. I tried searching, but I couldn't put the right words together to find the prior posts. The flutter doesn't really bother me, though there is a slight concern that this minimal movement over a long period of time could compromise the bulbs. Electrical components don't seem to like movement.

Maybe it is a hidden feature where the lights are 'auto-leveling'? I have xenon auto-level on my ML but have never noticed the lighting movement though.

Turn the lights on and then hit them with your fist and see what happens. It takes a trained eye to see it at night and is only noticeable on certain surfaces. I don't know how one G35 would do and another wouldn't because of the way the headlights and support brackets are designed.

I can understand your concern, but I have'nt heard of anyone having problems with their HID's due to the flutter. I've had my sedan for 2.5 years and no problems yet.

No, I don't think this is the case.
