Strong chemical Ammonia smell in car, from exhaust??
Hey all, I have a 2004 G35X Sedan and for the past 6 months I've had this STRONG chemical ammonia-like smell inside the car. Its worse when I open the windows and ventilate the cabin. I'm pretty sure its coming from the exhaust as I took a look at it and its severely rusted with holes in it from the Y-pipe back to the axleback which completely broke in half.
1) So I'm wondering could it be from BEFORE the Y-pipe also? Or most probably from Y-pipe back or another source?
2) If I replace the exhaust I would need Y-pipe -> midpipe -> muffler/axleback right?
3) Would this setup work: Any Y-pipe -> coupe midpipe -> HKS axleback?
4) Sedan midpipes dont fit the G35X right?
Thanks for the help guys

I would say your cats could be the problem because a leaking exhaust pipe wouldn't cause that. You could pick up some oem cats for cheap around here and while you're at it, change the exhaust since holes make it sound bad. It's too bad your car is out of warranty because the cats are covered longer than the power train warranty.
