Low pressure warning lamp
Low pressure warning lamp
I been getting a low air pressure warning lamp recently. It comes on after I drive for like 30min- 15-20mi. I check it twice so far at WAWA, not sure how good that is. It reads 38psi. I let some out thinking maybe its to much and there is a warning if there is too much. Light went out then came back on only after a 30min drive. Short drives it never comes on. So today I went and check the pressure and its 39psi, tires warmed up 30min driving. So I just added some ait making it 40psi. Light still out but I havent taken that long trip. Any idea of an issue?

One or more of your sensors isn't being read. The light will flash and beep if the pressure is low, it will come on after an extended period of time and stay on if the system can't detect one or more of your sensors. It will reset every time you turn off your car and won't come on again until you have an extended drive period again. Have all 4 of your sensors tested and you'll find out which one is bad. I'm not running the TPMS sensors on my rims and it does it to me all the time.

I went back and read the owner's manual. It said if the system detects low pressure the light will illuminate and a chime will sound, but it didn't mention blinking or the light coming on w/o the chime. So my guess is if it doesn't chime there's an issue with the system, not a low pressure issue.
Blinking for 60 seconds followed by a solid light indicated an issue.
I know because one of my sensors died and i go through this every AM when i start my car. Next time i change my tires this summer...i'll get new sensors
BTW 40PSI is way too high. Try lowering the pressure down a tad. You'll get a softer ride and more even tire wear. The exact number to use depends on the tires. I've painted white stripes across my tires and looked at wear pattern to find an ideal pressure for me. My car likes 32psi

neo,
The condition you describe indicates that your TPM sensors are working but not in the positions that the computer is looking for. Have you recently rotated your tires? The dealer can qickly fix your light. The same thing happened to me whenever I switched between summer and winter wheels/tires. I finally bought a tool that plugs into the computer outlet under the steering columb that I use to reprogram for each set of sensors.
When a sensor dies, the light stats blinking on start up as stated by Mustang5L5.

For an '06...but start at page 9. Unsure if this really helps anymore though
