Thumbs up $200 VQ35DE Hell yeah!

Wow my post count is low, i lurk too much and dont post enough. lol

Anyway, great news everyone! I was at work today and i went to this somali gas station with a shop in the back (theyre actually all ASE Certified Wyotech and Dunwoody graduates, except one whos this mexican dude who used to do oil changes in the parking lot at autozone) to deliver parts and noticed they had a 04 or so Altima 3.5SL that they were pulling the mill out of.

I asked the mechanic, mexican guy, how much he wanted for it. he was like "just pay the core and its yours". I asked how much the core was and it was only $160 or so, so i said hell yeah ill take it.

I went there later today to put it in stone with the service writer and im picking it up tomorrow. Thing is the other mechanic said that the tensioner is hydrulic driven and the mexican dude didnt know how to fix it so he just said he could swap the engine out for the customer and they agreed. So im getting a running VQ35DE for $200 plan is to rebuild it, put in 350z rev up cams and a 350z intake manifold with a spacer along with some new rod bearings and piston rings since its got 190000+ miles on it.

if youre about to write tldr then heres the summary:
got vq35de for $200 from shop at work
turns out it just needs tensioner
gonna rebuild it and do light build

You are going to put this in a FWD nissan, right? The G uses the RWD block version of the VQ, you pulled a FWD block, it has different motor mount locations.

Isn't just the same block but a detuned version with obviously different manifolds, heads, cams and crank?

Unfortunately no. In order to mount it in a FWD car, their had to be some changes made to the block and such.

That engine is pretty much useless unless going back into a FWD car

OP you still can achieve a win here and sell the motor for $800. Sorry it won't work for your project........

All you need to do is make some custom mounts. It's not hard and shouldn't stop you from swapping it in. Any one with mild fabrication experience should have no problem making you some. Here is an example the RWD conversion mounts for the FWD motor. These will only fit a 240sx btw...
