If i knew, i'd be buying them myself. i don't want to take the risk in buying new ones, and not sure what aftermarket sensors are compatible with our system

ok i'll pitch in with my 0.02$

Firstly you can get a set of 4 OEM Schrader TPMS off ebay for $100.
TPMS 4 pc set
Our cars use 40700-CD001 spec tpms.

Next head over to nissan ; they will take $150 (100 for installaiton that $25 per tire) and $50 to program the tpms.

Thats the entire system serviced and reprogrammed for $250.
might be cheaper where you are. To me $250 is worth another 6 years of trouble free driving (with that damn light off) but that's just me.

Can independant tire shops reset or reprogram TPMS yet? Or is that dealer only?

Reason I ask is because I need 4 new tires soon. I could just have the tire shop install my new TPMS and either have them program is able to, or then head over to dealer

That's a good idea. I'm sure if they can't do it then you can always take it to the dealership after. I'm sure the ship won't charge you if they can't do it successfully. Since so many people have been having problems with the toms I just decided not to take a chance and get it fixed properly.
