Not another VDC + slip light thread...
I noticed a few weeks ago that my VDC off and SLIP lights were illuminated. They are it immediately when I start the car, and stay illuminated at all times when driving. These are the only two warning lights on.
Things I've checked so far, after browsing many a forum post:
-Brake fluid. Topped it off, even though it was above the min line to begin with
-Brake pads. Looks like I have roughly 3/16 inch of pad left all the way around.
-Check power steering fluid.
-Check that brake lights actually illuminate (ie fuse is not blown)
-Check for diagnostic codes - none thrown.
I've waded through countless forum posts about similar situations, but usually there is some difference, ie their lights are intermittent, additional warning lights are lit, etc. The fact that VDC off and SLIP are lit when I first start the car seems to be useful information, but I'm not sure what it suggests. I am leaning towards it being an alignment issue (I have not had an alignment since owning the car, roughly 3 years / 40k miles) or a sensor issue, but am looking for some more clarity and things that I can check before going to a mechanic.
On a possibly correlated note, the other day when slowing down from highway speeds for a dead stop traffic jam, I noticed my car had turned off. I was able to restart it without any problem, and have not had a repeat occurrence since. I drive manual, but am fairly certain the car did not stall from trying to stop while in gear, since I was still holding about 40mph when I noticed the engine was off.
