06 Sedan Headlight Wiring
My first post on here but not my first VQ35 powered car.
So I just got my wife an 06 g35 Sedan but the peeps that had it before took it to a body shop and messed up the headlight wiring.
Now, the low beans only turn on when I have fog light on the "ON" position. High beams turn on like normal and etc. I know somewhat about wiring but not to the extent of diagrams and all.
Just want some help on wiring on your g35 and how its set-up stock and what wires go to the low beam and fog light part of the headlight.
I have the non HID headlights.
Post Pics Please.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Weird symptom. FYI in '06 the low beams are HID bulbs in the upper portion of the headlight. The high beams are 1/2 of an H4 Halogen bulb (bottom of the lamp) and fogs are the other 1/2 of that halogen.
Here's the page which shows the wiring at the lamps (and a color chart). If you want to dig deeper grab the "lt" service manual here:

The top section of the headlight did not turn on so the low beams were not connected. I thought that the top was for the fog lights. Thanks for clearing that up, 05_SkylineSedan.

OK, hopefully they just forgot to plug your HIDs back in, that would be the simple answer. And it would explain that you were seeing only fogs or high beams from the halogens. There are several fuses and relays involved too so if you find the plugs all in place you'll need to dig a bit further.

After removing a whole bunch of tape, these are how the wires were. After little trial and error, I managed to connect wires and made the low beams work. I don't know how they retrofit those H1 bulbs in that socket but they are working how I hooked them up. It is a DR2 headlight (TIAN); but they retrofit a h1 bulbs in there. And yes, they did "forget" to put in the HID Ballasts and bulbs. I don't know whether to buy an ebay(XENTEC) HID kit or OEM(around $300) ballast and bulbs.

Sorry, it's very hard to read what's happening in the pics you've posted. Probably because it's not easy to get to the back of the headlights... Below is an illustration of the whole assembly from the service manual. Remember the Xenon bulb should be behind the upper cap and the lower position should have an H4 (double filament) halogen. (You've already said that was working - fogs and brights - so your H4s are wired correctly and only your HIDs aren't running). The ballast for the HID is supposed to be at the very bottom of the housing. The parts may all be there but just a plug isn't plugged or a fuse has popped. Before you go buy anything you need to figure out what's really happening. (Maybe a trip to the dealer for help, or back to the body shop?)

They are DR2 headlights. Somehow the body shop removed the OEM HID Kit/bulbs and retrofitted a H1 bulb in its place. I cut and fixed the wiring for the H1 bulbs to turn on.

The wire colors don't seem to relate to what I posted above ('06 for sure?) so maybe the whole thing was modded. But the main thing is: if the lens is marked "D2R" then it was designed for a D2R bulb and an H1 would probably not put the filament in the exact right spot to focus your low-beams correctly. I'd even be concerned about heat issues with the physical difference between the two types of bulbs. I could be wrong about those points though, maybe they're more similar than I think.
I find it odd that anybody would purposely switch from HID to Halogen. Usually people are trying to go the other direction. Hopefully they didn't cut anything away or damage your lens to the point where a D2R won't fit any more. For instance, there aren't supposed to be any wires going through the upper "cap" like in your 3rd pic above so you're probably missing the HID plug and socket bits too. Getting back to stock could get costly unless you found a full used set or headlights somewhere with bulbs and ballasts.
But if you've got it to work as is, and the low beams aren't blinding oncoming traffic or anything, then I guess you're OK for the time being.

D2R bulbs have specs, so each manufacturer much meet those specs to be accepted by OEM's.
