ethanol

I was in Tenn last week it seems most of the gas is 10%ethanol. I only use 93 octane in NJ no ethanol.I get 25-26 mpg with it.With 10% ethanol I get 23 mpg.Performance is the same just lose 2 mpgper gallon.Has anyone also noticed the difference in mpg? The 87 octane is cheaper than NJ at $3 a gallon. The 93 is .45 cents more! I dont see how 87 is cheap but 93 costs more! Also in NJ we are not allowed to pump or own gas! The G was fun to drive on 81.80 mph all the way! I just had to keep scanning for the red n blue lights!

I think about 1mpg difference for 100% vs 90%. Which is about the energy difference.

It's a known fact that ethanol burns with less energy than gasoline. The reason we have E10, E15 is due to the politicians getting lobby money from the big corn producer and put it into law. They told us gas would be cheaper!!! But has it been cheape due to ethanol??? The only people laugh all the way to the bank were the big corn producers, which caused a big jump in corn prices. The lower mileage is the big factor not to mention ethanol can cause damage to plastic parts in the long run.

I remember at one time these idiot politicians were floating the idea of E85! Can you imagine what mileage you would get with that?

They make money off of making us buy it! We used to have gasahol.in Jersey it was cheap but if you wanted performance forget it. It didnt last long here. Unless you figure out your gas mileage you dont know.l noticed if l used hess gas l lost mpg compared to shell. Hess ethanol shell 100% gas. When traveling l want the best mpg. Traveling 700 miles one way to Tenn losing 2mpg adds up! I only put 93 octane in my G no ethanol.

MA only has E10 fuel. It sucks, but it's all my G35 has ever seen. 87, 89, 91, or 93 octane...all E10.

I miss the days of 100% gas here. I usually travel within a few states of mine and have yet to see it anywhere else.

But the concept is proven that ethanol does not produce the same amount of power as gas, so there is a loss of fuel economy.

Can turn this thread very political as well, so we just won't go there

I am in TN and about the only places you can find gas with no ethanol is around lakes. Marina's will have no ethanol gas for boats, and sometimes gas stations near the lake will carry it as well. Otherwise, 10% ethanol.

And I just learned yesterday of the Jersey gas pumping requirement. A friend was telling me about being in New Jersey, stopped for gas, and started pumping his own. He said he was nearly attacked and treated like he had robbed a bank.

Yes in Jersey it is against the law to pump your own gas!You can get arrested for doing it.l was in Powell Tenn l found wiegel had 100% gas 93 octane at $3.79a gallon. I dont understand 87 is cheap @$3.00
a gallon.But 93 at that price.Cheap 87 but 93 so high doesnt make sense.Jersey price 87 $3.15 and 93 $3.49.

One US gallon of gasoline contains 114,000 BTU of energy, ethanol only has 76,100 BTU's of energy per gallon.

From what I've heard the station can get fined if on camera people are being seen pumping their own gas
