05 1/4 miles times, anyone?

I am just curious as to how close to 13's this car is with the 298hp? I am looking at buying a car to replace a 97 5-speed maxima with a supercharger and want something fast but stylish!

Thanks...

Also, isn't greddy making a turbo for these cars?

Guy they basically just came out and it is winter season. I don't think anyone is going from the dealer straight to a track.

Not everyone lives up in the North East... I was down at Rockingham running a 14.1 this time last year.

perfectmax - yes greddy does have a twin turbo. you asked quite a broad question. you may want to spend some time in the f/i forum, before you determine what the g is capable of. there is a guy who's got a stillen stage 2 (or 3) sc'd g35x. also check out gurgen's sedan (power enterprise twin turbo).

According to some of the road tests I've read for the 30th Annv 350Z with 300hp, the car isn't any quicker with the new power. Nissan traded 10ft/lbs of torque (280ft/lb->270ft/lb) for 13-18hp in the upper rpms in the 6MT models. Trading midrange power often negates topend gains. I think the difference will be no more than .1 seconds and 1mph because most of us know the sedan was a bit underrated in 03-04 (closer to 270-275hp). I don't doubt there's more power there, but I don't think the improved performance will be that dramatic. Also, with so few guys on here running at a real 1/4 mile track, it's hard to get an accurate gauging of the performance increase, if any.

The latest issue of Road and Track or Car and Driver (forget which one) has a best sports car comparo, with 10 cars.

The 300 HP 350Z tested 5.6 sec's 0-60, .2 seconds faster than the last test. Also, some seemingly contridictive info on the reduction in torque. In part of the article it mentions a "flat and more usable torque curve" and seems to indicate that there is no loss in performance. In a caption of a picture of the 350Z it states the there IS a loss of bottom end.

Coming from a 2002 AT Maxima to a 2005 6MT Sedan - I don't notice any loss of bottom end power, but the rev's climb incredibly fast in 1st gear.

Yeah, it's the latest issue of Road & Track. I know that Motor Trend and Car & Driver have all gotten consistent 5.4-5.5 0-60s and 13.9-14.1@101mph+ out of the 287hp Zs and I could have sworn R&T had gotten the same numbers as the other mags.

Once in 2nd gear in the higher rpms it really doesnt matter about the low end tq. Plus the higher rev limiter will place the shifts in a better more usable part of the power band. We just need some dynos to find optimal shift points for the new 6spds. I will dyno after my first oil change on a dynojet.

In the Road Test Summary of R&T has 2 listings for the 350Z :

350Z Track 3/03 5.8 0-60 14.4@99.7
350Z Roadster Touring 8/03 5.7 0-60 14.3@99.5

The article states (.02 sec quicker than the 350Z Track Model)

The comment about the torque curve is that it's more "linear"

To me Road & Track times are more realistic then C&D or Motor Trend.

Proof that the drivers of Road Track need more time behind the wheel of the 350Z. The 150lb heavier Roadster is quicker than the Track Z

Motor Trend:
3/04 350Z Track 5.3 0-60 13.8@100.9mph
8/04 350Z Roadster 5.8 0-60 14.1@99.6mph

I have no doubt the power feels more linear in the 298hp/300hp motor, they loped off some of the midrange punchiness. I experienced the same thing with my Maxima when I added the Nissan Cefiro intake manifold. I traded 10wtq/10whp from 3500-5500rpms for a gain of 10-45whp/wtq from 5800-7000rpms. I dropped .25 seconds and gained almost 3mph from the change in power.

Guys, I am not trying to figure out 350z 1/4 times. It is a completely different car than the G35 that I am looking to buy. I was just curious as to how quick the new g sedans where. I have read on this forum that the new 05's aren't that much quicker BUT i think that is BS (no car mag has tested the new G yet).

Car and driver:

04 6-speed G35 sedan (260hp and 260 ft/lbs )
1/4 at 14.8 @ 97mph

The 05's are rated at 298hp and 270 ft/lbs.

In my older maxima 38hp and 10lbs of tq. made a huge diff!

Motor Trend

2003 G35 sedan auto, Premuim, Aero, Sport 0-60 6.2 1/4 at 14.65@96mph

This is right in line with what my friend did in his bonestock 03 sedan auto -14.7@96mph with a sluggish 2.3 60' at 1100' above sea level. On a sea level track that's 14.5@97mph. Did I mention he weighs 270lbs too?
