Headlight Replacement Question

I tried searching this for a while but didnt see anything.

I recently was in a nice little fender bender and completely cracked my headlight and the plastic around the bulbs (shiny reflective stuff), however it still works fine.

Could i use the replacement headlight assembly without the HID kit (bulbs and ballast) or is there more to it than that?

I am not 100% sure, but do your upper headlights (the main one) reflect or project light? Projector lights would not fit this housing, but reflector lights would. Projector lights kind of have a halo effect.

I have a 2005 g35x with the highest package. So i have whichever came with that. I know that isnt a ton of help. they are still extremely bright with the outside stuff surrounding the bulbs broken.

I just searched for the type and i believe they are reflectors? Does anyone else know the answer to this?

The type on ebay are reflector. Find out to get your answer by looking at your car.

Do you have a sedan or coupe? If you have a sedan with stock lights you have reflector. First gen sedans did not come with projectors. The bulb and ballast should swap over with little additional effort to swapping out the headlight. You cannot use a halogen bulb in a hid housing without modification.

2005 has reflector hid (d2r). 2003-2004 has one headlamp and 05-06 has another. They are not interchangeable without modification. Make sure you buy ones for 05-06. If the vendor says they are the same, do not buy from them.

Gen 1 is 03-06...05-06 was just a few upgrades from 03-04 and wasnt a new vehicle. Regardless, no G35 sedan form 03-06 had projectors as stock

If those are in fact 05-06 style headlights, then yes. Those years ONLY came with HID's so you are good to go if you just want to swap the headlight housing.

My concern is that they are the cheap, chinese 03-04 halogen headlights mislabeled as working for all 03-06 G35 sedans. There are differences between mounting an 03-04 and 05-06. Subtle changes in the hood and bumper will leave gaps and such.

However, if you google the part number provided (DS620-B101R) it does show links showing it's a 05-06 HID headlight

Finally just ebayed a used OEM one. It will be worth the extra money in the long run.

Thanks everyone.
