Fuel gauge problem. Detailed.

So it seems that a repair or replacement of the cluster is the solution. A google search shows a few places repair for $125 - $180. If you tested both sender units - and performed the test SkylineSedan took time to show/link... cluster fix seems to be cost effective solution. I had it done on a Yukon I own about 3 years ago. Complete cure of my gauge probs. Keep us posted on things.

But yes i still have the problem. Im 99% sure is the cluster. Been waiting to buy one that fits my exact car, AT with NAVI and cluster near 96k. Repair should fix it as well. The cluster can be pulled out and repaired. Keep in mind that car will run but not for long w/o cluster so it will need to be sitting.
This is another reason why i cant get the work done. I need my car to be up and running at any given time.
To the guy asking about dimming, there are companys that address that as well, not sure if the same guy that does the fuel gauge can do that work.

Theres was a few that popped up on Ebay the other day from around $100-200. If you read their descriptions they state what issues they fix. Heres a link to one for 199.99 that guarantees the fix of:
Intermittent or failed fuel level gauge
Intermittent gauges
Intermittent back-lighting

Then theres this one for about $108 that only mentions speedometer and fuel gauge issues. You could message and find out if they also can fix the dimming issue.

I have a 2007 G35X with 129k on it.. I am having a issue with the gas mileage. when I first got the" G " and i filled up the tank i would see the display show 399 of 420 mile in the tank . I have noticed that has become 270 or so on a full tank what can i do to fix this... ? how do i test to see what is the issue? is there a sensor issue or do i just need to clean the tank? What do i do?

Going through the same ordeal and I was quoted $1200 too to replace my cluster by the dealership. Way too much!!! I was thinking of using a company like 'module master' to get this rebuilt. Do you guys know if a rebuild preserves the key codes and mileage, or if there is any legal stuff I need to take care of?

ha ha! I am turning in to a mileage-based-fuel-filling-guru too! I am planning to get the cluster rebuilt next month. Will let you know how it goes.

In my case yes. Replacing both units didn't fix it. When I ran the self diagnosis on the cluster, the fuel gauge didn't move the expected way. So now I am sure it is the cluster.
