Its taken me three days to even think about coming to the forums, cuz on tuesday someone pulled out in front of me on my way to work, and I T-boned a Geo Prizm....

anyway, i was probably driving about 50mph and he pulled out in front of me, i did slam on the brakes but probably brought the speed down to 40-35mph...there was more damage to the front passanger side but shouldnt my airbags have gone off???


im fuming while writing this so im going to leave out details, and probably add more, i am thankful that we both walked away safe, BUT!!!!!!!



im thinking of trading it in right away when i get it back because i feel it will never be the same!

 

Crapweasel, Sorry to hear of your accident......sure the G got bent, but it probably saved you and your passenger from being bent too. Glad you're OK.

As to the front airbags, it does seem strange that they did not deploy... I can only suggest that the impact was not of a nature to warrant their deployment, perhaps because of a glancing blow.

We've all heard of airbags doing considerable damage to the occupants. For this reason I think ours are quite sophisticated in that they'll only deploy when necessary and at different speeds depending on what the ECU/BCM 'reads' about the crash and occupants.

Further, I'm sure it would be easy for the dealer/tech to determine the status of the airbag system. If it's faulty, it would show up on a scan.

Once again.. Glad your Okay!!! That's most important. A car can be fixed/replaced. As to the airbags, I agree with gsedanman. Airbags seem to have gotten smarter over the past few years.

Get that G back into commission!!! Don't give up on it yet, but definitely have the airbags checked out.

 

About one year ago I posted the exact same discription of my accident at the same speed. My car had $15,000 damage to the front end when I t-boned a truck. I phoned the dealer, Infiniti, and everyone I could. No one wanted to help or even discuss it. You will not get anywhere with Infiniti I can guarantee you that!!

Sorry to hear about this. My roomate owns a sedan and he crashed it 2 months after he got it. While we were talking, I too think that cars dont ever feel the same, he said that after fixing it, no rattles no nothing. If anything, it felt more powerful?

Im not sure if this will be the case for you, hope it gets fixed good so that you dont lose $ trading it in.

anyways, i live in Palm Beach and we have a fantastic repair shop called European Paint and Body who were good enough to fix my acura when i was rear ended (actually had two friends who worked in the business who couldnt tell it had been repaired) so we'll see...the car only had 2000 miles on it, so im thinking that if i trade it in immediatly i will lose a ton of money in the trade.


now, for my take on the accident and how it happened, and how the car felt and preformed.


traveling down a three lane major road in palm beach, usually crowed at 8:15am with drivers just like me....Happy Little Drowls on our way to work.....however this day had the middle and right lane surprisingly wide open. I downshifted and took the car to 50mph on a road i would normally be stopping and going. Left lane was packed with cars turning into a major business plaza.....then, about 20 feet in front of me a purple geo prizm rears its ugly head....for some reason i think the guy slowed down a bit, not sure, but i ended up clipping the passenger side to his car....he slid so far that the wheels turned and went underneath his car....now as for the feel of it....i dont wish this on any of you guys, but, the car was an absolute TANK!!!!!, and as a terrible habbit of mine (which i no longer do) I wear my seatbelt behind my back as to not crease my business shirt, and felt absolutely safe as hell in this car.


Im also thinking that the reason no air bags went off is that more damage and impact happened to the passenger side, and seeing as i was alone maybe this is why the airbag didnt employ...maybe....any thoughts???
