Ok, another issue with my new (used) '05 G:
When I agreed to buy the G from the Chevy Dealer, they said they would fix the driver's window. What's it doing is this: when you press the button to roll the window down, the window rolls down fine. Press button again to roll it back up and window goes up, but then it comes halfway down again. Grrrrrr. You have to shimmey the switch in increments to get the window all the way up. Dealer said they fixed the issue, they said it was a "reset", not a window switch issue. Got the car delivered yesterday and the issue is NOT fixed. I am in Boston, the dealership is in Putnam, CT. I can't keep going back and forth. So I took it to my local place this AM and am going to have dealer pay for it. Any thoughts as to what this issue is? Does it sound like the whole switch needs replacement? My mechanic said he never heard of a "window reset". I see some stuff online about when a battery is replaced in a car, it can throw off the window computer so you have to reset it. So the fix is holding window switch down for a few minutes, then again holding it down when window is up. That didn't work for me this morning.
My mechanic is going to run a diagnostic scan on the car, see if a code shows up.
Anyone had this before and if so, what was the fix? Thanks all.

Mistook you for the V36, but taking off the door panel is not that bad. Once you do it once it is very easy next time. I have to do it every so often when I unplug my battery to do work and it does this BS.

 

Yes, there is a window limit switch reset. Basically you have to remove the door panel and locate a small "button" on the motor down near the bottom. A small circular disk is covering the access whole. The switch doesn't click in like a normal button, so don't worry if it doesn't feel like pressing it does anything.

Here's the procedure

Sedan
Raise the glass to the top position.
2. While pressing and holding the reset switch, lower the glass to
the bottom position.
3. Release the reset switch, and check the reset switch returns to
the original position, and then raise the glass to the top position.

Coupe
With the door open, lift up and hold the power window switch until the door glass is fully closed.
2. Get inside the vehicle and close the door.

You need to close the door so the door switch is fully depressed.
3. Press and hold the reset switch. While holding the reset switch, press down and hold the power window
switch until the door glass is fully opened.
4. Release the reset switch.Then, lift up and hold the power window
switch until the door glass is fully closed.
5. Open the door to release the door switch. The door glass should
partially move down.



I tried both methods on my 06 sedan, and interestingly enough, the method outlined for the coupe worked first try for me.

Took me all of 10 min to do and most of that was removing the panel.

IIRC, pry up the window switch plate and disconnect, then use a small screwdriver to pry up the aluminum armrest trim. Under that are two bolts (10mm IIRC) that can be removed. There migth be one screw UNDER the door panel, not sure. After that, simply lift up on the door panel and remove it.

 

Thanks, Mustang. That procedure worked. The mechanic said it took 4 tries but he got it. Thank you. I put another thread out today about a shifting issue in the cold. Any ideas?
