Stainless is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof.


I bet most exhaust manufacturers are using 400-series SS anyway, which is not as corrosion resistant as 316 or 316L. However if your exhaust was made of that stuff it would be much more expensive.

 

It will rust if you scrape it with carbon steel .type 304 has no carbon in it. Thats why a magnet wont stick to it!.Type 304 is very strong. Its used in manufacture of reasearch products. I have made primate units out of it and the chimps cant dent it by beating on it! It will not rust from road salts. You would have to scratch it with carbon steel to make it rust.l have had my magan exh on thru last winter in jersey no rust on my exh!
