Cranking but no start, 03 Sedan
Cranking but no start, 03 Sedan
I really hate this to be my first post, I searched and found issues close to mine but not exact.
3 days ago, I went to start the car, it cranked would not fire. The car had sat for about 2 days prior to this. I could hear the fuel pump. I tried about 3 times nothing. Cranked over strong no sign of weak battery. Hopped in my truck and went to work. When I got home I tried my other set of keys. Car would crank but not start. I read voltage, battery was at about 12.3 volts when I cranked it dropped to 10.5, low but should of still started. I threw my jump pack on the car for about a minute and hit the key. After a long crank the car then started. I let it run for about 10 minutes ran great, no miss or anything. Have one code for a small EVAP leak. Checked voltage at Battery while running and had a solid 14.5 volts.
I have never had a car crank over with a bad battery and not start. I have read on some forums that these cars will act completely normal with a bad battery but will not start. I assume this means it will crank as well ?
The fuel pump sounded fine, but I also cycled the key 5-6 time while I was messing with it.
I went to play with it today, at this point it has sat for 3 days and the car started up perfectly fine.
The only difference I can think of is it was about 30 degrees Wednesday morning and about 50 degrees today.
Is this a sign of a sensor going bad, the fuel pump going bad, or are these cars really picky about their batteries ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I drive an '05 6MT. Same exact thing was happening to be about 6 months ago, even with a brand new battery. I googled and found a few other G owners (mostly '03 G's) had the same problem and they all traced it back to the stock head unit for the sound system. I think most of them had the Bose. I did not have a Bose, but decided to disconnect my radio anyway, along with the lighter/power outlet located underneath it.
The car started immediately.
I then reconnected the lighter/power outlet, but not the radio. The next day, the car would barely start again. I figured it must be the power outlet too. So I disconnected that a short while later. The car started righted up. I droved without the radio and power outlet for a few months and the car started just fine every day.
I now have a Pioneer AVH-100DVD and I reconnected the power outlet. It's been a month now and everything is just fine. And after all is said and done I have a MUCH better sounding radio to show for it.
