gonna do my first official transmission oil change HELP

I just got my transmission fluid (only 4 quarts of matic-s ordered matic-j nd this is what they sent me but i heard its just the new matic-j. But i plan on doing the drain and fill brcause I have about 114k miles on my g35 and never gotten any kind of transmission fluid change. I plan on doing the simple drain and fill with the biggest drain bolt but i also seen a video were they did a similar drain and fill thru the transmission nd pumping 2 quarts back is that necessary?

Also i heard you have to change out the filter and clean it out. Do i need to switch the filter or would i be ok till next 10k miles were i do another drain and fill??? Help please

Filter isn't really servicable. It's more or less a screen. I wouldn't worry about it. It could be replaced if it helps you sleep better at night.

Just put the front of the car on jackstands, and remove the tranny dipstick (10mm nutdriver or socket), then remove the trans bolt (i think 19mm but not sure) and let it drain. About 4 quarts comes out. Replace the drain plug, and then what I do is pour the 4 qts into one of those 5 qt oil change jugs after i do an oil change. That helps me measure how much fluid came out.

I then pour that amount of fluid back into the trans dipstick using a funnel. Put the dipstick back in, close it all up and go for a drive. COme back, and pull the stick and confirm it's in the correct range. If it is, mark it off as done and redo it again in 30K miles.

It's easier than an oil change on these cars.

^^ Exactly. Just measure what came out, put the same amount back in and adjust a smidgeon if necessary. I let mine drain for an hour or so and I get 4 litres out. That's almost 5 US quarts.

Ok kool. But right now i only have 4 quarts. Is that enough????

I checked my fluid and its not even red its brownish/yellowish. you can only imagine 113k miles with the same transmission fluid. I heard you can drain 2 quarts and pump 2 quarts in with the two transmission bolts is that necessary??? or is the simple fill and drain enough??

I would just do a drain and fill. You might want to pick up an extra quart just in case, if you can. If not I wouldn't sweat it. Just don't be **** like me and put the drain plug back in after it stops running out instead of just dripping. With a new copper gasket of course.

Did you perform some unofficial exhibition tranny oil changes before this?

Only reason y im doing a drain nd fill is bcuz after 15 mins of driving i get out of my car and smell burn i recently just did a engine oil change and it still smells like burnt oil. I looked at my transmission fluid and its brownish and smells horrible. Could this be the smell???

I usualkly have 5 qts on hand when i do this. I replace 4 but never know i need 5.

I would also do a drain/frill vs a flush if it's never been done before. flushing can sometimes have some negative consequences

just do the 4.. if you get more out.. just goto the dealer and buy another quart...

being 0.3 quart low on tranny oil aint gonna kill anyone.

You probably had a bit of oil drain down on the exhaust.

You don't have the cash to buy another quart of tranny fluid? Have your plugs been changed? You're gonna need a lot more disposable income if you plan on keeping this car well maintained.
