Very elusive front end clunk

Hey guys, I'm having trouble finding a clunk in the front end. It's been there for over a year now, but I still can't find he source. I've replaced most of the front end for various other reasons, but it has never solved the issue. I've replaced the upper control arm, lower control arm bushing, compression rod bushing, end links, shock mounts, CV shaft... The compression rod ball joint and lower spindle ball joint have not been replaced, but are both fine it seems. I'm starting to think the issue lies outside the suspension. The car drives just fine. Has anyone found clunking from other areas in the engine bay maybe?
I even had a tech look through the whole front end trying to find an issue and he couldn't find anything.

Steering rack bushings?

I've got a similar mystery clunk. I put the front on jackstands and start hitting stuff with a mallet and can't find what's loose.

Phew, I'm not crazy. My '07 G35 Coupe has something similar, but I think my shocks are blown. However my wife's Murano has had this front end mystery clunk for years and I've replaced virtually everything as well (tire rods, endlink, wheel bearing, etc).

My only guess is maybe the shocks/springs are the problem and that if/when I get them replaced having a new suspension installed/re-built it will go away.

Hmm, steering rack bushing is a possibility.
When I replaced the shock bushing last summer, I checked to see if the shock still had damping, and it seemed to be ok.

Motor mount perhaps? Not a big replacement item on the G, but I went through the same parts replacement scenario with our I35 and it turned out to be a bad motor mount. I realize it's a different platform, but it may be worth a look.

Did you tighten the two big bolts of the sub-frame (directly under compression rod) to 165ft-lbs? And the other 14mm bolts to 60ft-lbs?

Motor mount was one thought I had.

I will check the subframe bolts as well. Didn't check those before.

Mine was a broken battery bracket. the rear one was loose and under hard stops... it would lift the back side and cluck back in place.

Well, I finally found it. I was checking my wheel bearing, and while loosening the lug nuts, I was able to replicate the sound. I put the ratchet on the lug nut, and hit it with my palm while the wheel was still on the ground. Put a screwdriver to my ear and started listening for where it was coming from, and found it to be the compression rod. It's been clunking for over a year, and I've checked that ball joint before, but it never had any slop that I could feel. But now it does. Thankfully, it looks like there is finally an aftermarket option for this part that isn't super expensive like OEM.

Odds are that's my issue too. I'll find it eventually. I'm at the point where I'm going to stop fixing these little things and start considering trading the car in. Almost 160K miles

seems like 160k is the magic mileage for this car.

Doesn't seem like it was elusive at all. Haha. Seems like it was a very common problem.

I have the same sound only when braking (~2 years now) and the new rotor has already warped. I'm pretty sure it's the wheel hub. I changed the wheel bearing recently.
