Wheel bearing after 30k miles? 2005 G35X
Wheel bearing after 30k miles? 2005 G35X
I have a pretty loud noise and even a bit of vibration from the front of my car around 50mph+. The car has about 186k miles on it. I have replaced both front wheel bearings, brakes, tires, driver side CV joint, u-joints, and a few ball joints/bushings in the front in the past 30k miles. I know that one ball joint is bad right now, but I don't think that's the cause. The noise is very similar to a bearing noise. Has anyone had a bearing go bad in just 30k miles? We get a LOT of snow up here, so I guess if the seal went bad, it could happen. The bearings I used were all Timken too, so good quality.
My other thought is that the differential bearing is bad. The passenger side CV shaft seems to have a little bit of slop in it where it inserts into the differential. Doesn't seem like there are parts available to fix this though.
Further research, looks like the differential side bearings are part number: 38440AR00A. Seems like it requires dropping the differential and reassembling to replace this. Not an easy job. Has anyone had an issue with these before though?

No to differential bearings, yes to wheel bearings failing after few miles.
Originals on my car went around 70K miles. Both fronts. Then, one of the replacements failed about 40-50K miles later. The other replacement still fine.
All were Timkin bearings. Timkin doesn't manufacture the bearings, they just distribute the bearing from another manufacturer... NTN
FYI, NTN bearings are what is OEM. If you buy a timkin and OEM bearing...both packages contain an NTN bearing. So basically Timkin IS OEM

Ah, good to know. Ok. I will take a look at that then. It's possible it is my passenger side CV shaft as well. I need to get the car in the air and listen for a definite area. By the time this car turns 200k, it will have every front end component replaced.
Pretty sure both my fronts are on track to fail again soon anyway. Had the rotors off to do a brake job recently, and spun the hubs and both side felt very rough and gritty.
Not bad when driving, but sometimes it does feel a little rough.
These bearings suck

Hi all,
Are 2004 G35x suspension parts (Knuckle, wheel hub, etc) compatible with a 2005 G35x?
I think I've diagnosed the noise when braking slowly, a bad wheel hub. I only changed the wheel bearing and ball joint at the shop last time. The new rotor has already warped on the that side.
I also changed the bad end links and stabilizer rods.
Yes, looked like a bad wheel bearing. The front wheel bearings are terrible on these cars.

Wheel hubs rarely go bad. Unless you physically hit them usually it's the bearing. I've put both my hubs on a mill and checked runout and there were fine.
I would suspect the other bearing, or same bearing has failed again. It's not unheard of for some guys to replace the SAME bearing 5K miles later.
These front AWD wheel bearings blow. I suspect I'll be changing out #4 shortly.
