Pending lawsuit against 6mt owners...

After weeks of riding the fence between the 6mt and the auto G35, I drove away with my Di-Graphite, premium 6sp today. The only bad news is that I have to wait 1000 miles before I can see what she can do.

So now I'm faced with driving 20K miles per year with a manual transmission sports car. If my left leg becomes swollen to the point where I can't drive anymore, I'm suing each and every 6mt owner on this website who "made me" get the stick.

In all seriousness though, I was downright giddy driving home. What a machine. My car was taken right off the truck today with 6 miles on it. The downside to that was the chemical burn-off was pretty bad. In fact I panicked and called to dealer thinking there was something wrong with the engine. They calmed me down and said that they normally try to drive the cars for 30 miles or so before selling them for this very reason. With the miles I plan to put on her, it won't be a problem for much longer.

Thanks to everyone who helped me decide on this great car.

Whew! At least I won't get sued!

Congrats on your new car!

BTW, break-in period is 1200 miles, not a huge difference.

Yeah Bobby, its a long 1,200. It won't be too hard, the car is damn fast even without going full throttle, shifting at 4k rpm. Enjoy and congrats

Can't wait for my 6spd which I ordered to come in. Your dealer sounds like a jerk when he says they try to drive em 30 miles to get the chemical burn off out. If they drive em, they drive em as demos not to get chemical burn off out. I can just imagine the scene this guy is trying to portray--- "all right you guys lets get in the 4 new cars we got yesterday and drive em til we get 30 miles on the odometer so the customers don't complain about chemical burn off and don't forget to keep em under 4k revs" Gimme a break- do the dealers think we are mindless idiots. Good luck with your car.

Nice work Bobby! I'm at 225 miles with my 6MT , and I cannot imagine the pain of another 1000 over the next 4 weeks! To me, the clutch is much lighter than my Max was, and the stick is definitely starting to loosen up .. it's really a great gearbox. I'm really starting to feel guilty about how quickly I'm over a car I loved for so long ... haha

In mellow cruising speeds below 4000rpms, this car is certainly fast enough to be illegal, but hopefully the cops are too busy chasing down 350s and coupes to notice my little old 4 door sedan

Question 4dr 6MT

I just got mine, and the dealer told me that with the "micro-polishing" they do at the factory, you don't need to "break" it in. I mine had 12 miles on it and I had a lot of "burn off" also. Smelled like burnt oil.

inTgr,

Did you do this with your car? What do you think of the results? I have seen that site many, many times and wonder it to be true? What are your thoughts? Anyone else that have gone the way of "hard" break-in, what are your thoughts about your engines performance?

Yes....
Since performance etc is subjective w/o dyno etc.
The only thing I can say right now is, I don't need
to add a drop of oil between changes.

I'm a stick driver, just hit 23k at exactly one year. Let me check...

Yep... both legs the same size

no worries! Enjoy the new ride.

Congrats!
Personally, I would just break in the clutch for 500 miles and you'll be fine. Just make sure when you do go full throttle your at operating temps.

Drive safe!

I would definitely "break in" the car. Eventhough the cylinders are micro-finished but all the other drive trains components are not....
Btw, stick in traffic is fun

On my 2002 Altima, I opened it up a few times during break in. At 38,000 miles the engine was replaced because it burned too much oil. At 39,000 miles, I had properly broken in the 2nd engine. The result was a significantly slower car, the engine felt tighter and didn't pull as well. Oh well...I took it easy on this car, wasn't about to abuse a car that cost this much.

Auto or manual was a tough choice for me since I prefer manual for a number of reasons.
What sold me on automatic was being stuck in traffic (1hr 15 mins to go 4 miles!!!!) yet again with my MT Maxima.
I'm still adjusting to AT after ~3weeks but I'm loving it in stop and go traffic. I do pity you for having to take it easy for awhile with the new car but, it is worth it.
I just returned to CT from meetings in Long Island and was 'playing tag' with two BMW's and a Lexus SC 400 (what a car!) at around 80 mph. The G is so stable at high speed. An absolute BLAST!
Good luck with your new car. Boy, are you in for a great time !
