Bad grinding noise from breaks but pads are fine
Bad grinding noise from breaks but pads are fine
A few days ago my right rear brake started grinding very very badly and is very loud at low speeds. I took off my wheels because I thought I needed to change my breaks but the pads are fine and still have a lot of meat left on them and the pads don't look to bad either. My car still stops fine and everything but the grinding is just getting worse and louder everyday. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated thank you
Did you check both sides of the rotor and the inside pads?
Very common for the rear calipers to seize up (the slide pins rust from water getting in the boots) and the inside pad is the only one to contact the rotor. The outside pad will not wear and the outside of the rotor will look pristine, but the inside pad will wear down and then chew up the backside of the rotor.
Did you just take the wheel off, or did you remove the caliper, rotor and inspect and relube?

Did you actually remove the pads to inspect them or did you just eyeball them while on the car. If the latter, I'm sure its the pads...the same thing happened to me a couple months ago.
