I just recently bought a G35X. I have the AWD light on and a bad driver side front bearing. I also have a bad passenger outer tie rod. Could the bearing make the awd light turn on? I dont have any abs or engine codes its just the awd light that is on. Its a solid light at all times. My AWD is not working because the light is on so it only goes into rwd in the snow!!

 

Check the fuse that powers the AWD. It is found in the fuse box beside the hand brake

 

I just checked the fuse and tested it, its all good. My wheel bearing is pretty bad but no abs light. Only AWD.

 

Could have damaged that wheel speed sensor, that will cause your symptoms. Also check the transfer case fluid. Good luck.

 

How do you check the transfer case fluid? Also would i only have to put in a new wheel bearing and plug the old sensor back in?

 

You would need a new hub, bearing, and wheel speed sensor (not the sensor ring on the front shaft). Expensive to say the least. You can try to use the old hub but I wouldn't recommend it. Much easier to bring a pressed hub and bearing assembly to the job instead of pulling the hub/bearing assembly, going to a shop to have the bearing pressed off the hub and the new bearing pressed on... then reinstalling. I press a new bearing onto a new hub then throw the old crap out.

 

Hub/bearing ~$250 minimum. Wheel speed sensor (OEM) ~$150

If just your AWD light is on, it probably isn't a wheel speed sensor. The sensor will make the VDC and slip lights come on too. AND you won't have AWD. If it is just the AWD light, I think there is a fluid level sensor in the transfer case, in which case you should add more fluid into the T case. Much like filling a differential. Don't loosen the drain plug until you get the fill plug loose. I would go to the dealer for the fluid.

 

And you think its the transfer case? Do you think i can bring it into a shop and they scan it and see what it exactly is?

 

Yes, nissan can diagnose for $125. That's what I had to do to see which wheel speed sensor failed. Their computer system can diagnose codes like these, unlike regular scan tools. There may be a scan tool out there that can do this, but I'm not sure who would have one besides Nissan.

 

Did you have the vehicle thoroughly inspected by an Infiniti dealer prior to purchase?
All these defects could have been used to negotiate a lower purchase price or completed repairs prior to your purchase.

As for the light. It would be unrelated to the bearing, and if the wheel speed sensor was suspect, your ABS and brake and slip lights would be on.

The AWD light generates a code similar to the check engine light. You need a different method to read it though. A consult 2 will read codes, but either pony up for a Chinese clone, the real deal, or just head to Nissan/Infiniti
