When i press the gas, my rpms go up but speed doesnt really gain, please help!

Ok so first off hello people of the g35driver.com forum!
this is my first post here after a few months of checking the forums here for numerious questions ive had, you guys are great!!! anyways my problem.....

So I got my 2003 g35 about a week ago with a little front end damage, nothing horrible, but enough to need new fenders hood and bumper, belts squeak etc normal front end stuff I got it for 1500$ so I figured id fix it up...Well everything was fine for about a week and now when I press the gas the car moves fine but as I hit it harder it seems the rpms go up but the speed isn't what it was, don't get me wrong she will still GO but not like before... was worried about the trans..but when I put it in M/M mode it shifts fine and as responsive as ever...kinda weird. oh also I sometimes sell a rubbery burn smell and after it made the smell I haven't drove her since. please some one help I love my g lol

thanks everyone!

EDIT: forgot to mention there is no check engine lights on or any lights on the dash
also its a sedan, if that helps =]

Auto or manual? If it's a manual probably slipping clutch. If it's an auto tranny could be shot but check and/or replace the tranny fluid.

Sounds like the automatic transmission is slipping.

First thing to do...check fluid level and top off. Cross your fingers that saves it

I would suggest getting a replacement tranny rather then rebuilding one that you already have. Would save you good money. Unless you can find a replacement torque converter, that would be even better if you can pinpoint that it is the cause.

You should get it scanned, sometimes codes are registered but don't bring up the light.
Does the engine light show up when you turn on the ignition? It could be blown/removed.

yeah the light itself is there and works, when I turn the accessory on its there.

but yeah ive seen donor trans on ebay for as low as 199 with 199 shipping, 6 mo warranty.
il take it to my guy and see what he says. I got it for cheep so I don't mind putting money in it. thank you everyone!
