I read a bunch of articles late last year that promised Nismo and Infiniti R-Spec products here in the States sometime in the spring of 2003. Well, Spring is here and I haven't seen any announcement. When will the R-Spec products be made available to us?

I actually dropped my car off at the dealer today for the 7500 mile check up and the service guy mentioned that it would be avaialble this fall. He also mentioned that the Stillen (intake and exhaust) after market parts would not be covered under warranty and that I should wait for R Spec. Has anyone else heard of this?

been in contact with infiniti over and over again, about the nismo parts. it seems to be that they keep holding everything back, making sure that everything works perfectly wiht our cars. Hey sounds good to me, its worth the wait, im just afraid of the price. they said it would be here around august. but who knows it could get pushed back again, or even advanced...

Of course the aftermarket parts won't be covered under the Infiniti warranty. They didn't make them, they didn't put them on the vehicle, why should they cover them? The aftermarket parts should have their own warranty by their own manufacturers.

Factory warranty will only cover the r-spec parts if the dealership installs it for you. So make sure you find a dealership that wont rip you off. (good luck)

I would imagine a few reasons its taking so long to get the parts is either there still testing them and/or trying to get them carb certified for california (which takes forever)

Sorry for the confusion. Let me validate my statement. They indicated that an intake or an exhaust would void the warranty of the car if it was installed.

However, I have heard that some dealerships are selling and installing Stillen parts (w/o voiding the warranty). This is what I was curious about.

Bah! Total BS. The warranty is valid only until your 3rd party part causes the failure. And they (Infinity) have to prove that the 3rd party part caused the failure. My dealership was ok with the Stillen Intake I ordered. The service manager was however a little wary about the Injen CAI due to the filter location. Also the statement about aftermarket exhausts is total Bull. Looks like you need to find a different dealership to service your ride.

It really depends on what dealership your dealing with. Some will hassle you for installing a exhaust kit or CAI, and some will have no problem with you installing it.

Here's something interesting, my friend bought his 2000 prelude form Penske Honda and had them install a Jackson Racing Supercharger on it, and they said they would honor his standard factory warrenty still. He even got it in writing. Now 95% of all Honda dealerships would void your warrenty even if they installed it, and 90% of them wouldn't even install it period.

The key is to find a dealership that is performance orientated.

So how would you find a preformance oriented dealership?? call and ask?

 

I swear I saw a post on Freshalloy where an Infiniti Dealer installed an aftermarket intake and an exhaust and indicated that this would not void the cars warranty...

Either way I'm sure my dealer is pushing the fact that Stillen will void the warranty for the obvious reason...for me to buy the R-Spec products.

Ask the service manager where they stand when it comes to peformance parts. Ask if you buy the parts thru there sales department and have there service department install them, will they still honor the facotry warrenty if something goes wrong. As far as Penske Honda goes, its owned by Roger Penske (CART and now Indy Cars) he's into perforamance so thats probably why they will install the stuff and let you keep your warrenty.

I asked the service manager at the dealership by my house and he said they would only honor the factory warrenty if I bought NISMO products thru them and have them install it. He said they would not honor the warrenty if I bought any other manufactor aftermarket parts (such as Stillen) even if they installed it.

It would be illegal for them NOT to honor the car's warranty, unless the problem was caused by the aftermarket part. So, if you install a Stillen intake, and your tranny falls off, guess what... they have to cover it.
