G35X Rear Hub and Wheel Bearing
G35X Rear Hub and Wheel Bearing
Our 2003 G35X has been diagnosed by the local Infiniti dealer as having a bad rear wheel bearing on the drivers side. What I would like to know is: (1) Is their any difference between The G35Z and the G35 hub and rear wheel bearing?; (2) Do you have to replace the hub when you replace the bearing? Thanks to whoever responds to this thread!
Rear bearings are the same as the G35 coupe and 350Z. Bearing is available on Rockauto.com for about $40 for the rears Timkin bearing which is the same as the OEM bearing if you were to buy from Nissan.
You should replace the hub as good practice, but I don't always. But having another hub means you can prepress the bearing to the hub and have it ready when you do the job.

Follow-Up To Wheel Hub Question
I have discovered that the G35X and the G35 share the same rear wheel/hub bearing. I have also discovered that the wheel hub and bearing, whether obtained from Infiniti or NAPA, is sold as one piece. Is there a reason for this? Why not simply press the old bearing off and press on a new one?

It is hell getting old!!! I sure was way off base on this one! I was mislead from the beginning on the wheel/hub bearing and it became even more confusing. Thanks for setting me straight on the subject, it was most appreciated!!!
Rockauto.com is a bit cheaper than NAPA on the bearing. Napa wants $74 for a brand I can't ID.
Rockauto.com.
Timkin BM500006 (the OEM bearing) : $40.06
5% off discount code: 4109787333701281
$38.xx for the bearing, plus shipping.
Hubs are a bit more expensive. Pretty much dealer only although advanced auto sells a hub but you have to order it. $200 or so.
Here's a DIY so you know what the job entails.
