Ran over debris, bent rims
Ran over debris, bent rims
Need some help. Couldn't avoid a road debris this morning due to rush hour and other cars hitting it. End up running over it on the right side at high speed. Busted the right front tire, rear tire, and bent both rims. It also knocked the control arm out of the upper bushing/mount point.
Had to source 2 17" oem rims at $150 each and Bridgestone tires for a total of $762. Yeah I got ****ing screwed. Being nearly 30 miles from home for work, I had no choice. They wanted another 500 just for the control arm and I told them to forget it.
When I deal with the control arm, can I force the control arm back to the mount/bushing? Should I replace the whole unit? or do I replace the bushings and knuckle? what are my options and how much can it be driven until I address it 100%?

i wouldnt drive it till its fixed. the control arm might be bent. but as for the mounting point i dont think it can just be dislodged without breaking the mounting point. but good luck.

Control arms aren't even expensive to fix if you have a decent mechanic. I personally have never done it, but if you choose to, I would recommend going new. Most places give you free tool rental with the part (control arm is tied to the ball joint, which is pressed into place) I THINK. Correct me if I'm wrong please.
yeah control arms from rock auto are dirt cheap. Problem is for the 06, several lower control arms look different across different brands so I'm confused.
Replaced the control arm with a moog one. Had firestone install it so that they could align everything. This has become an ordeal to say in the least. My left front tire camber is off by 1 degree. They claim that it should push the car left, but the car is actually pulling to the right. They also claim it's just a little bit, but its a lot to me. They also say that 1 degree is not a big deal and most likely is the left rear tire being moved to the right front that's causing it.
I also get a pulsating/whirring sound that comes and goes and doesn't seem to be dependent on speed. they claim it's normal. car still doesn't handle right and I'm getting seriously pissed. Is the moog unit a quality control arm? Since they used a moog unit, should the left side also be replaced with moog? Any other ideas or suggestions as to how I can fix this? It's really pissing me off.

On a more realistic note, I have no idea. The whirring sounds like a wheeling bearing. I dont think the control arm would be causing anything (except the alignment issue), How much was everything if you dont mine me asking?
If you want to fix your camber, you would need an alignment. This debris sounds costly.
