My official goodbye.

Welp, after 11 years, time for me to say goodbye. Sold my g35x today, and was a bit sad to see it towed away.

For those that don't know, I had the front driveshaft universal fail at 80mph with it. Did some damage (possible diff replacement needed) and I decided not to fix it. Bought a new car (2014 Taurus Limited) and sent this one on its way to someone who wants to try to fix it for $1000. I felt that was fair enough given the unknown cost to repair and the miles.

Anyway, I may linger a bit, but for the most part not sure how active I'll be in the coming months. Hopefully my wheel bearing DIY continues to help others for years to come and I can be reached via PM if anyone needs some info on anything I've said.

It's been fun.

Would have loved to get a SHO, but end of the day, I've already got a Mustang, and I'd rather spend the money I would have spent on the SHO on the kids/house. I just wanted a nice new car to drive without going too crazy on paying for one.

BTW I don't know how I lived without air conditioned seats before

Did you just not check that u-joint or was it a fluke and just failed?

I was hearing a noise shortly before it failed, and was assuming it was CV axles as it only clicked when I turned hard to one side, so I checked though.

To be quite honest, I never suspected the front driveshaft would have any issues. For the most part, it only sees load at low speed and then is pretty much along for the ride. I sort of just took it for granted and was thinking my clunking was the CV axles, for which I almost replaced the driver's side one.

Had I know these front universals were prone to failure (I guess it is common) I would have been a little more diligent in inspecting it. I sort of took it for granted I guess.

As you can see. It pretty much sheared right at the joint. I was doing 80 at the time...going straight. It just let go. I'd have to imagine it had been weakening over time.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
I'm headed down the same path. After buying my super low mileage 06 GTO last fall I'm fixing up the G to sell her. It will be bittersweet for me but it becomes more tolerable every time I get behind the wheel of the Beast.

I will remain semi-active here as a mod but that's about it. I just wish the GTO community had a forum as awesome as Driver to help me learn more about the car.

Good luck Mustang, it makes me sad that such a long time/helpful member has gotten so few responses to this thread. I know a lot of us are very grateful for your contributions here over the years, you will be missed.

Thanks. Not gonna lie, part of me was sad watching my car loaded up on a flatbed. I meant to snap a picture, but I was too caught up in it.

I kinda miss the car, and still catch myself checking out clean 03-06 G35's on the road. That prob won't ever stop.

As you can tell...I'm still kinda here for a bit. And the Ford Taurus forums blow as well, so I understand you with regards to how other forums are. 2-3 days in between responses there.

Coupe, Premium package, sport suspension
I'm relatively new to the G-world having bought my 06x in 2013. I also was not really a car guy; I like to work on my historic house. But I've definitely caught the bug and working slowly in an OEM+ direction. The forum has been great to me, and I always looked for your posts because they were and are so helpful. I'm sure they will continue to be a help to me as I go along. Best of everything to you. Thanks for your contributions here.

Best of luck to you with the new car! I gotta say I've learned a LOT from your posts, and really appreciate all that you have done here. The wheel bearing DIY is gonna save my ****, as mine is clunking over bumps at low speeds and howling like an SOB now on the highway. I am looking on Ebay as we speak to see if I can find a vendor selling the hub and bearing already pressed together, since I don't have access to a press.
