Does any one know what the differences are between the sedan and coupe oem thermostats? They have diff part numbers but look identical

Have you tried asking the question at an Infiniti dealer parts department?
Might be worth a trip to meet the parts manager, service manager, and a few technicians that work on these vehicles daily

they are identical BUT the coupe opens at a different temp.

Its not super hard to do the research, i found it when i had to buy one. I THINK!!!! sedans are 180degrees and coupes are 170degrees. Dont quote it just stood out to me. I rolled with the standard for my car because the price was only a few $.

 

So in other words i can keep it cooler by running the tstat for the coupe?

 

Not necessarily. Going to depend on other parts of the system such as radiator cooling capacity, fans, coolant condition, etc.

It may open sooner, but IIRC, they all seem to run around 200 degrees when at operating temp. You really don't want to run a modern fuel injected car much cooler than that anyway.

Also if you do any of the research and homework i did about the T-stats, you will also find out that 350z/G coupes cooling systems run at a slightly higher pressure 1.1 bars VS .9 bars or w/e units they use. Again this is from memory when i did the actual homework about the T-stats and cooling system.

Its all out there or look at a coupe and sedan FSM. Stick with the stock is the best unless you have a reason not to because its not "better"
