License Plate Light Bracket 3D Printed?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has dimensions or an already made CAD file for the rear license plate light bracket. I was thinking of making one instead of paying the insane price for a new one.

Not sure about the CAD drawing but how much is "insane"? Amazon has it for $50, dealer prices are about $75 and I'm sure a wrecking yard would be much cheaper if any have a G in your local yard.

For me, $50 for a bracket it's pretty expensive. I plan on keeping my car for the long haul so a plastic piece would probably be better and won't rust away like a metal one. Also, if I 3D print it, it's free.

If no one has tried anything like this, I might suck it up and buy one but I was hoping someone might have tried.

In 8 years on here I have never heard or seen any discussion. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, I just can't confirm that anyone's tried.

I read another thread recently where someone removed the bracket, or what was left of it, and used double-sided 3M foam tape to stick the lights in place.

I've modeled a lot of stuff and could easily CAD up the OEM part, just need dimensions. I've taken classes (Mech Eng major) and have access to 3D printers. The bracket is pretty random in shape so I can write it off as part of a university project.

I've never seen a G or Z in any of my junkyards, it would be very nice if there were a few though.

eBay had a few options.

I have plenty of CAD experience and I am a mechanical engineer as well. I would've made the bracket myself if I had dimensions. The problem is, mine is rusted away and I can't find any info on the size.

I went to a junkyard last week because they just got a G35 in and the bracket on that one was rusted as well.

I'd be more worried about the plastic becoming brittle and breaking off at some point. The exhaust is in the general vicinity, and some of those various gases may react with the plastic depending on if you use PLA or Nylon or another type of printer plastic and even the type of printing method you choose to use.

It's an interesting project for sure, but for $50 I'd just rather buy the bracket and use the 3D printer for designing quadcopter frames or something more fun.

Take the next bracket and paint it with epoxy or something so it doesn't corrode.
