(NEW) Mobil 1 Extented Performance
What do you guys think about the new fully sythetic oil by Mobil 1??...They gaurantee the oil to last 15000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first..
there's no doubt the oil will last 15k or even their existing mobile 1 will last 15k.
the filter however will not. if its doing its job right it will become clogged and require replacement... if its not doing its job right it will pass the garbage back into the oil pan
I'll be using mobile 1 (regular) when i hit 10k and change at my normal schedule of 5k (1/2 year).

Yeah....3Aims took the post right outta my keyboard....Why wait so long? I went synthetic the minute I hit 1,500 miles (much less waiting to 15,000 miles). ALL your highline performance cars come with it from the get go. Your break-in is just a little longer with it installed at 0 miles. That come from almost two million miles of synthetic experiance on my part.

and you should have no issues with 15000 miles of service. I do the 7500 mile interval now, but I saw this M1 extended stuff in WalMart for $23 for a 5 qt. jug. So for $28, I can go almost a full year. Damn good.
Hey all,
I actually want to start changing my own oil on the 2005 G35. However, I have been reluctant because it sounds and looks difficult.
Reading the owner's manual gave me a boost of confidence that I could actually tackle this.
People that have experience in changing oil for G35 (especially the 2005) what items will I need for the maintenance?
Example:
Engine oil (what brand, type, etc.), gloves, pan, type of filter, etc.
Thanks!

Birdhouse,
I was a little reluctant to change teh oil since the other posts I read were soooo detailed. Here's the way I did it.
Jack the car up on the drivers side usign the hold down hook loop, place a jack stand behind the jack (just in case). This should give you enough room to remove the screws holding the cover on.
REmove the drain plug and filter. I let the old oil run for about 3-5 minutes (enough to drink a beer). Install the new filter and drain plug and put in about 4qt of oil.
I then re-installed the engine cover and lowered the car.
Check the level when the car is sitting level again, add oil as needed, run the motor and re-check.
Easy as can be and saves you a good 20 bucks or more.

decreigh1,
Your making too big a deal and too much work out of your oil change. Just put in 5 Qts of oil, run the engine, let it sit for a few minutes then check the dipstick. Now you know that you have the correct amount of oil and this gives you the opportunity to infarct confirm that the dipstick is calibrated correctly.
As far as the Mobile 1 goes....I'm of the belief that the filter is the weak link in the system, therefore I like the 3-4000 oil change interval. Using straight Mobile 1 would be a waist. Quaker State makes an oil that is a mixture of synthetic and mineral oil, or you can use a mixture of say 2 Qts Mobile 1 and 3 Qts mineral oil.

im not sure if this is true for gas engines but in my diesel class we were told to NOT mix mineral and synthetic oils. and just for some extra unneeded info. amsoil has a dual system that goes 25k miles or 1 year with two filters and amsoil synthetic oil.
