You can make a key without the chip, but it will not start the car. It will open the door and it is what Infiniti calls the wallet key. It is good to have when you lock your keys in the car and you should have one made.

Sorry.

Talking

IF...I said IF you've got a decent repore' w/your dealer it can be done in total ( programing and all!) for about $75.00. Dealer cost on the key with cutting is about $60.00 and a few bucks for the programing of the internal chip. These AIN'T friggn' Home Depot keys. If ya ever need the remote pad....you're on your own. We used to keep extras etc. to re-program and give to our good customers who may have lost/mis-placed them...BUT.... be prepared to pay $50/60 for one normally. Thank your god that it's not a MB or BMW key.........you'd cry like a women JBX

I had one made yesterday @ Dreyer & Reinbold Infiniti in Indy and they charged $133.00 and it took them about half an hour.

When you bought the car, you should have gotten 2 keys anyway. Even if you bought it on a used car lot. I would make whomever you bought it for pay for the key. BTW, Lexus keys with the built in remote are $350.

A reprogrammable key fob is $5-10 on ebay. Get one of those. A spare key at Home depot will open your doors, but not start your car.

To get another Infiniti key made, they have to either read the serial # on your lock cylinder (which requires removing the door panel) or they have to plug their computer into your car and download the appropriate file.

One takes an hour, the other, 5 minutes. Still costs the same.

Tybo, who has the other key? Was the car bought from a dealer or a private party?

If it is a private party, they need to get you the second key that comes with the car. If it was a dealer, you should talk to them about getting you a second key for the car (complimentary of course). Also if it was from a dealer, they need to tell you where the second key is (I wouldn't like the thought that someone is walking around with a key that can start up my car).

Be careful...I tried to start my prelude once....with a spare key....ie. no computer chip and the ENTIRE car shut down. I was told by Honda that it thought it was being stolen and the car shut itself down. WHAT A MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTT!! Way cheaper to get the appropriate key made!

My dealer said something similar about the G35 and the wallet key for starting the car. The manual (p. 2-16 in '04 manual) says there can be a problem with the regular key under certain conditions and gives instructions for starting if you have a problem. I have not had a problem or tried to start it with the wallet key. I think I read something on this site about it once also.

Definitely. They should be able to track down the previous owner and get the other key with the chip, plus the valet/wallet key.

Again, someone out there has a key to your car and the used car guys should understand that.

Good luck.
