Mechanical key wont turn ignition
Hey guys, really need some help here as I cannot understand why in my 2005 G35 the key wont turn in the ignition. Some notes:
Steering wheel is locked, wheels are NOT cranked to one side though.
Tried the wiggle/pull back and forth on wheel while turning key that has always worked on any vehicle - no go on this.
Car battery is well charged.
FOBs will not lock/unlock doors.
Car is in park.
...I reckon a number of you will see a light bulb when you read that the FOB wont lock/unlock - however, explain to my how the mechanical key (the key i slide out from the FOB) wont override any security and allow me to turn the ignition and/or the steering wheel?

Try tripping the shift lock feature by depressing the button on the shifter assembly under the little plastic tab. Don't know if that will help but it's worth a try.
Pretty sure that only releases the interlock the the shifter itself. OP it's possible your key has simply been worn down from too much use, does it LOOK worn
For about $20 you can have a locksmith cut a new key from your VIN number which would be 100% identical to stock. It won't have the transponder programmed but it would at least turn the cylinder lock so you could rule out that the cylinder is or is not damaged.
Definitely try turning the steering wheel HARD both left and right while trying to get the lock cylinder to release, sometimes things like parking on an incline or the unpredictable forces of nature can jam the steering lock and requires colossal force to take enough pressure off the locking pawl to allow the key to turn.
You're not going to exert enough pressure to break the pawl unless you sit sideways in the chair, prop your feet against the door and pull with all your might.

There is a "key interlock cable" which runs from the shifter to the key cylinder which won't let you turn the key unless you're in Park. It's a physical cable, like a bicycle cable, and it's possible it's gotten hung up or come off it's guides or whatever.

Are you sure about the intended operation? I'm pretty sure it's supposed to keep you from being able to shift out of park with the key not in the ignition, not the other way around.

hey guys, with a NEW cr2025 in the FOB i was able to get the ignition to turn and of course the wheel to unlock.
That being said I still dont accept that the mechanical key cannot do that regardless of FOB.
Key is not worn down. Also, at first this still didnt work - would not lock/unlock doors using FOB...but after a few minutes it did...almost like it had to learn or something.
Thanks for everything so far and might be worth keeping this going.
Now, if i could only get the ***** to start! - This is not new but here is the scenario.
Car will turn over all day, just wont start.

If the physical key is cut correctly (unlocks the door), the only other thing I can think of is the key's "chip" which needs to be recognized by the car when you push in the ignition switch or you won't be able to turn it. That's that NATS system, right? That's discussed in this manual:
