Hi all.
Yesterday my sunroof started acting up. It would slide back but when closing it would reverse just before fully closed. I greased the rails, checked for debris in the tracks, etc... I looked on the forum for issues. I couldn't reset the switch because it wouldn't close to allow tilting. I tried the "tap repeatedly" on the switch to close and override auto close. It would still back up. I ended up pulling the headliner and removing the motor (it has been wimpy for a while so I figured I'd replace it.) motor is coming in a few days. The car is a daily driver and I want the the large hole in the roof closed. So with the motor out, I slide it forward to close. Again, it only gets so far then binds up.
So right now I have no headliner AND a hole in the roof. Any suggestion on what to do or look for?
Thanks

Sunroof delete.
Well. Not quite (yet). I pulled the whole assembly out of the car. Pulled the carriers out the back end of the tracks. And finally was able to remove the glass. Put everything back together (a couple times). The passenger side will close all the way forward. But the driver side stops solid about an inch or so and won’t go any further. Likely that is what was causing the rig to bind and the auto retract to enable. Just gotta take it apart again to see if I can figure out what is stopping the motion. Hopefully it is just something hidden in the track.
I had sunroof issues and it ended up being debris in the tracks that had wedged under the little carriers such that it was reeeally difficult to see. I ended up using a magnet to grab obstruction. My first step every time I'd take a whack at the problem was always to remove the glass though, that will give you much better access to the assembly while it's still in the car, but it sounds like you've gone past that already haha. I was able to find and completely disassemble a sunroof assembly in my local scrap yard though, so if you post some pics I might be able to provide some insight?
Thanks. That actually was the issue. I finally had to take the whole thing apart to find it. Where it was, I would haven't seen it with the sunroof installed. Unfortunately I ended up pushing the debris into an area I couldn't get it out. And I broke a plastic part off one of the pieces. So I ordered a part from eBay. I was finally able to get the mechanism all shut and back into the car so at least I have a roof for rain tomorrow night.
What a headache, glad you got it figured out though. I was always too scared to pull the entire headliner in order to get the sunroof out, so props to you for that, and for figuring it out so quick. I think it took me 6 months of periodic fiddling to finally figure it out (in fall of 2016, so I had a working sunroof juuuust in time for winter).
