How do you set the garage door opener?

Hi I just bought a place with garage and wanted to eliminate that ugly black box garage door opener and would like to use the mirror buttons for this in the G, how do I go about doing this?

Thanks

should be in the manual... but typically it involves you holding down both your transmitter button and the button on the G at the same time for about 30 seconds or so. I'm not sure about the exact procedure on the G.

The manual describes the procedure pretty well. I also got a laminated quick reference card of some sort with my '05 that details it a little better than the manual. The tricky part is if you have a "rolling code" opener (and most modern ones are these days). If you do, you have to press the code reset button on the garage door opener at the same time you're programming the HomeLink buttons in your car. You'll need two people for this one. My wife and I figured out how to do it together the day after I got my G, which was nice since I've had a HomeLink system in my Eddie Bauer Explorer for several years and never could quite get it figured out. After we did my G, we got the Explorer programmed, too.

Can Homelink be added by the dealer? I currently have a remote for my garage and my community's gate and I would love to eliminate both of them.

You can get an aftermarket rear view mirror with homelink. I don't recall the manufacturer (try searching this site), but some oem manufacturer actually produces the ones used in the G35. The dealer probably won't add it, but you can install it yourself.

ARoss,

Go to the homelink website click on compatible brands. An advertisement should pop up for a Subaru mirror w/homelink, auto dimming & compass. With a little luck this unit will fit your G.

Just grab your handheld garage door opener, then hold the button you want to use on the homelink down and the garage door opener button down at the same time (keep the garage door opener within a few inches of the homelink), the light will blink slowly on the homelink at first then it will blink fast, when it does let go of both buttons... now if your garage door opener has roaming codes, you will have to then go up to the garager door opener itself and push a little red button on its face (you might have to remove the light cover to see it), then you have 30 secs to get back in your car and push the button you just programed on your homelink several times... Should now work

How difficult is it to add that mirror? I have it on mine, but the loaners I've had usually don't, and there is no wire there, unless it's under the headliner. that might be a bit tricky.

For cars that don't have the homelink mirror, you would still have the overhead "map" lights that you can tap into for power. Not sure how much work it would be to install though. You can always get an estimate of the work from a car audio install place.
