I got a free G35!
Soooo this is a story all about how, I got a G35 and oh **** wow............
So I came into a situation where life long friends of my parents (who are kinda like parents to me too) had a 2005 G35 Sedan (auto) just sitting in their driveway for a few years. It belonged to their daughter. It had been given up on because they said it had a problem starting after sitting for a while. On top of that it had been in a few small accidents and the interior was filthy. Not shocking because it was driven daily by a 20 something year old girl.
We come to a point where I need another car. The wife drives my Mercedes and my old 94 Ford Ranger I have been driving for forever has a freeze plug crack in the block and I start having all the problems you have with a car that will not keep coolant and overheated very fast while driving. My truck is very high mileage and not worth the time or $$ to fix so I start asking about the G35 that's been sitting. I tell them that I'm in need of another car and to give me a price since I would prefer to fix up a newer car rather than my old beater. Not to mention it's been sitting for a couple years and they're still paying the taxes on it. After a few days the owner (the Dad) says he will just give it to me. I'm ****ing floored by this. I offer to pay him 1000 bucks (which is all I had) because it's too generous but he insists and gives me this car as a gift.
My dad goes and picks up the car and put's a new battery in it. I go to my dad's house and we clean up the car in his driveway. We work on this car for several hours. It was a filthy mess. Still kinda is. But the pics below is how she looked after a decent cleaning. So far she runs perfectly. No CEL's and everything works fine. The only issues so far are as follows.
Power tilt steering clicks and clunks.
Dash is cracked.
Alignment is off.
Rotors are warped and pads need to be replaced.
Front seat leather is torn on the bottom (heated seats)
(big issue) passenger front floor board dented upward and not fixed right because of previous accident.
Door leather trim peeling back (common). Have fix for it that I'll post.
Bottom door trim peeling back (can see pics)
Front lip is held on by zip ties.
Wheel finish is messed up bad.
Hood was repainted at some point and has a lot of bumps and imperfections
There may be a few more things but I'll document them and fix them here.
I have to say that I LOVE THIS CAR!! It's sooooo great and soooooo fun to drive. I look forward to posting my updates here and sharing my experience with this amazing car. I hope you all like it.

Learned a few things about my car. Turns out it's a sport with premium package. Has the factory nav, Bose system, red shocks, I keys, seat memory, reclining rear seats, heated front seats, all the options! Amazing car for an 05 and everything works!! Really the only thing I don't think I'm going to be able to fix is the clicking from the power tilt steering column. It "works" but not without being noisy and clunky. I turned off the auto seats so I don't have to mess with it. Any affordable way to fix the tilt steering?

Brother, I don't need to see your interior to tell you how lucky you are to be given a G in that condition. Your exterior looks just as clean as mine, and as for your comment about the wheel finish being bad, they look amazing considering what you paid for them. As Cleric said, your issues are nothing that can't be fixed easily!

It sounds like there are some teeth missing from the gears. I assume it's gear driven but I can't find jack crap on the internet about it.

I'm probably going to. Honestly the fact that it's an automatic seems to keep me from going nuts but I still find myself bookmarking parts, tutorials and reading a **** ton about everything G35 sedan.
It's been a long time since I've gone down a rabbit hole for a car but I'm doing it again. I forgot how much I love and missed this.

Check out the Transgo kit. Someone mentioned it in another thread on here. Apparently it improves shifting and transmission life. Also the Works Bell paddle shifters if you have money!
