Ran out of gas
Ran out of gas
Hey guys new member here 😁 just picked up 05 g35x and realized the fuel gauge isnt working properly. When I first got it it was at about 3/4 tank and over the next few days it went down normally to a little less than half. Next day it's taking longer to start and when it finally does gas gauge is empty and the lights on. Went and filled up 19.5 gallons lol almost dry. Needle didnt go all the way up though and stayed a little under full for a couple days. Went back and filled up 8 gallons and calculated I was getting about 19mpg so I should be good for at least 250 miles on a full tank.
so the other day I was going to work and about halfway there the gage dropped to empty again from about half and I just thought nothing of it cause I had only gone 195miles but it ends up going back to where it was by the time I got to work. I get off work at 1130pm in 10° weather, go about a miles and that's it lol car dies but gauge is still reading a little under half. So do the walk of shame the gas station and back and end up putting in 18 gallons.
I just went in and cleaned up the floater chips on both pumps (well see if that fixed the gauge) but why am I getting such low mileage? I dont drive the car very hard but I did use the "snow" button one night when we got hit.
thanks in advance ✌

I'd start by replacing the air filter and calculating mileage on another couple tanks of gas. City driving it's not uncommon to get 13mpg on a RWD, AWD could get potentially worse.

I can testify. The AWD really does like the fuel. It's about 200 lbs. heavier due to extra transfer case and propeller shaft, IIRC. My in-town mpg was pretty tragic on dry pavement, 13-15, but I had a lot of short trips too; that doesn't help at all. If you drove in snow with snow button, you can bet your mpg plummeted. Colder weather is another factor that drives it down.
