How to: G35 Door upholstery fix.

Since the day I got my free G35 I've been thinking of different ways and reading different solutions for fixing the leather upholstery that peels off on our doors. I saw a post where a member used edge molding but after a few purchases nothing worked well at all. By accident I stumbled upon some interior trim on Amazon that I thought would work perfectly. Turns out that it does. I've included a link to the trim I purchased and posted a video if anyone is interested. Hope you find it useful.

Side note: I forgot to mention it in my video but the leather was peeled way farther back than what you see in the video. I used 3M spray adhesive to get it to the point you see in the video. For the life of me I could not get it any better without the trim I used.

The end result.

Holy cow that turned out really good. I just ordered some up, I don't have the leather peeling issue YET but I'll do this as preventative maintenance.

Btw I love that loctite super glue, I used gorilla brand super glue for years but the dispenser of the loctite glue is just better in every way.

Wish I'd done that before I just peeled it all off the doors, seems at the time most of what I found here were temporary solutions.

My driver's side is just starting to peel at the edges. Thanks for finding this!

Even a "Caveman" can fix this peeling issue! All that's required is quick dry super glue and a toothpick for application! Pull the upholstery back carefully, apply the glue with a toothpick sparingly and return it to where it belongs. Not rocket science, superglue and a little patience is all that's required to fix this issue!

If you read my post I stated that I already tried that. I've tried gluing it several times and the edge always works it's way out. Years of central Florida heat isn't something every car interior get's to experience and just "super gluing it" doesn't last long. This method works better for my car and quite frankly, it looks better than stock in my opinion. Thanks anyway.

Gary he's right, it's not as simple as you think it is.

My 04' is doing this on both sides. Don't know if I'll try this trick or take the door cards to my interior guy and have them completely re applied.

Good write up!

Hmm, super glue worked for me but it was just one edge and California doesn't get much sunshine!

I hear what you're saying Gary, Florida heat is an entirely different animal though. 100% humidity and heat in the 80's and 90's for most of the year is rough on car interiors.

True, we have the hot humid summers here in Missouri too. My 05' from Texas doesn't have this problem yet probably because of the dry environment they have. Also explains why there isn't a spec of rust on the car too.

^Ah grasshopper you couldn't be more wrong. It's certainly not dry here maybe more so in far north Texas and summer heat is brutal. Our 05 started the door peeling at around 110K and was 6 years old at the time. The car was also garaged for 2/3 of it's life. I did the peel and re-glue procedure with a quality 3M adhesive very carefully and still had the top pull out from the plastic a bit. This trim senor Smurf used would make our panels look perfect hiding the slight pull away. Sadly the G is dead so no need to further fix the doors as she's being slowly parted out.

I stand corrected. Don't know why the 05' is in so much better shape, probably was garaged most of it's life. I can tell you guys have the heat because the dash is cracked up really bad under the dash cover. It was a Texas car it's whole life until the last few years being here.
