Oil change with VR1 is complete. We'll see how it burns. Not enough oil came out when I did the oil change, so obviously I am burning oil. I hope the rings aren't totally ****ed.

**Edit: this forum automatically censors swearing? Interesting.

Take it from someone who has 281k miles on his 06 6MT and has plenty of time to test different options. Stay out of the what oil is best threads, it doesn't matter at all if you're consuming oil. Slow the burn rate by going to a thicker oil, 10w-30 is enough. Also start running the larger oil filter from Nissan V8 engines (Armada/Titan) it bolts right on.

Then just start running whatever oil is having a special. I used to stick with Castrol GTX, but recently said screw it and bought 2 cases of Amazon oil.

You must be LOST, you're in a what's oil is best thread right now

I've been using 10w-40 high mileage dino oil since I bought the car, seems to keep burn rate steady and no worsening of my spark plug gasket thingy leak after 30k miles. As usual cleric you taught me something about the high mileage designation allowed to be an older spec less compromised by environmentalist red tape.

Cleric, why do you suggest the spacer for me in particular? Is it the fact I track my car, or the fact that my car topped out at 140 MPH this morning and I NEED NOS?

It's just information that's hard to find, all I'm doing is shining a light on it so you guys can do your own research.

Crankcase capacity is ALWAYS a good thing, especially when you're pushing the car hard, and MORE ESPECIALLY on an engine that can suck quite a bit of oil on a hard track day. One of the biggest reasons diesel motor lasts so long is because they hold 4 gallons of oil in the crankcase compared to the 1 gallon you find in a gasoline engine (the other reason being the rings are lubricated from both sides of the piston since diesel is an OIL).

To this point, I have been burning less oil with the VR1 10w-30; a little over 1000 miles since the last change and I've burned about 1/2 a quart, down from I don't even know how much with the Royal Purple 5w-30 because I wasn't checking the oil *properly*, but I can say it was over 4 quarts over the life of the oil change. I check the oil every morning before I leave now.

04 G35 Sedan performance package. 70k Eibach springs and sway bars. 19 inch wheels. Plenum spacer.
I used the larger Mobil 1 oil filter with Mobil 1 10/30 high mileage last oil change. I am at 3375 miles and the oil level is in the middle of the range right where it was when I changed it. Previous oil change was with regular 10/30 Mobil 1 and a Fram filter. I was using 1/2 a quart every 1000 miles. I'm a believer. Thanks Cleric.
