RockAuto Struts

Looking to replace the strut/coil spring/mount assemblies on my 05 G35x. I'm not entirely interested in just replacing the strut, and swapping over the coil spring. Rockauto only has one option for the front strut assemblies for the X, made by FCS. They are listed as an economy part which I am not to keen on. Has any X owner installed these FCS assemblies on their front suspension? Or, possibly someone can point me towards another brand/site where I can order the entire assemblies.

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure KBY sells the Excel G line as a strut assembly. If you're going for an economy set that's what I'd be looking for.

Unfortunately, they do not. That was my initial go-to.

I just checked ebay, and the only NEW strut assembly I can buy there are the FCS assemblies. Looks like I'll have to go with these.

Let us know how it goes. I"ve been considering using the same brand as well. I've seen duralast may make one as well?

Looks like FCS might be your only option. Why don't you want to go for just new struts? I just put some KYBs on my '03 with 175k miles and the top mounts were still in great shape.
I personally would rather do a little more work (it isn't bad to do - plenty of tutorials) and have a more well-known, reliable mfg for my suspension components.

I've never swapped springs over between struts, and I don't believe its a tool I can rent at part source. It will also be about another $100 to get the KYB setup, then I'd have to swap the springs. I haven't ordered the FCS yet though because I'm still weighing all my options.

I don't have an X, but when I changed them on my coupe a few years ago. I didn't have much choice for a quick-strut setup either; I had to compress the spring on/off. I've done it several cars since and still have a large pucker factor doing that job.

Compressing the strut is not a hard job. If you buy all new parts, you can put it together inside the house and act like its a whole unit.

I did it with KYB on my X. Granted i have lowering springs so my body weight was enough to compressor springs. But you can go to autozone and rent them for free.

I rather go with KYB for a little more money, if you have time wait for a rebate. $20-60 off on a set of 4 strut/shock combo.

Yea, Autozone you can rent them for free, they just hold a deposit I think. Or you can buy a set for like $22 from Harbor Freight (including a 20% coupon): https://www.harborfreight.com/MacPhe...Set-63262.html . Those look a lot less scary then the old ones I've been using.

Once you get the spring/strut assembly out, disassembling is the easy part because you can do it on a bench. It's pretty straight-forward - here's a video on it:

If just the KYB struts are more than the whole FCS combo, I think that's telling you something about the quality :P.

I live in the maple north fellas! No autozone up here. The ball joint press I rented only had 3 cylindrical adapters, none of which were the right size to press the lower ball joint back in the knuckle. I had to cut a piece of steel fencing post that was lying around the acreage that happened to be the perfect size. Y'all get way better stuff down there!
