changing from yellow halogens to blue?

anyone change there regular halogens to HID/xenon on a 03 model? i’m reading that a conversion kit is needed, other times i see youtube tuts and the owners just plug them right in. anyone done this before? don’t want to buy something that doesn’t work or just out right starts to smoke.

Halogen bulbs work without a ballast.

An HID/Xenon bulb cant work without a ballast.

U cant swap bulbs without buying the whole kit.

Ive heard people rave about silverstar bulbs. I dont think they have too long of a lifespan though. Plus u can get a full HID kit for about the same price as that.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
OP the loss of usable light isn't worth the switch to a "cool" color, your lights are a vital part of the safety systems on your G. You'll be better off with a 5000K-6000K bulb. They still produce acceptable lighting output and the 6K will have a very slight blue tint. Remember the farther away from 4300K you get the worse the effective light output gets. Pardon my French here but people that run 8-10K bulbs are idiots.

thanks for replying !! i’m looking at some bulbs but i’m confused with how they work. do halogens not quality for different light outputs ? 5000k / 6000k etc?? do i need the kit to get brighter lights? the ones i currently have in are just yellow as hell i have to use the fogs with them to see barely anything.

every time i search for what size bulbs my car takes it is showing me HID Xenons. but don’t i need a damn conversion kit for that!!!! what halogens do i need this is frustrating

Halogens are very limited in color output and most still look too yellow.

And yes...if your car is a coupe, it should already have HID headlights. U will only need to replace the bulbs. The difference is in the headlight housing style between the years.

03-05 = Reflector headlights. (Requires D2R type bulb)
06-07 = Projector headlights (Requires D2S type bulb)

No, all the 03-07 coupes use xenon bulbs for their low beams. The difference is in how the light is projected: 03-05 uses a reflector type housing. 06-07 uses a projector type housing.

D2R is an HID bulb. And don't buy cheap ones unless you like replacing them. Go with Phillips, quality stuff.

If you haven't replaced the bulbs before, watch a couple YouTube videos first, you have to go in through the fenderwells.

D2R is an HID bulb (aka xenon). Xenon and HID are the same thing.

If your coupe is an 03-05 with OEM headlights, get the D2R.

If your coupe is an 06-07 with OEM headlights, get the D2S.

That should clear it all up lol.
