Rebuilding the G
Rebuilding the G
Hello
I need input
I'm goin to attempt to rebuild my 2003 vq35de
The engine won't start and is believed to be the camshaft. I'm about to start tearing the engine apart. If there is anything you know that would possibly help feel free to reach out or comment!

Someone recently posted a video about what's inside the VQ engine. Really detailed. If you want an engine rebuilding guide there are a few videos about, and manuals for exactly how to do that.

How many miles are on the engine? The FSM factory service manual will have all the specs you need to measure clearances and rebuild it. I use the green sealed power plasti gauge to check bearing clearances. I use a flex hone (ball hone) to clean up the cylinder walls. Just cheap piston rings like NPR or EVE for $30 work very well, I've used them in applications up to 26psi boost on SR applications. I normally order OEM Nissan rod and crank bearings per crank / block stamping #'s but if you order aftermarket race bearings be ready to buy a couple sets to get them sized correctly. If there is any shavings or material in the oil pan be sure to take every piece and part of the motor apart to fully clean out or you will be rebuilding twice. If I have a engine that has over 200k or so and shavings in the pan I usually scrap it and pick up a junkyard low mile clean unit to start with. A low mileage clean pan engine can be rebuilt pretty fast with a lot less work.
