BUNCH of issues with my 2003 G35 sedan
I am fixing up my G35 after it not being driven for around 3 years and a bunch of issues have occurred:
- My battery seemed dead so I bought a new one. The new battery died, so I charged it and it dies within hours of being charged. I cleaned the connections and the problem persists. Used a voltmeter to check the alternator and it was good. Have not checked all the fuses yet.i
- 'VDC off' light, 'SLIP' light, and service engine soon light all on.
- Car will not accelerate. Fastest it goes it around 15 km/h.
- Rear passenger caliper was smoking and it smelled but burned rubber. Calipers are not sticking and the rear wheels can turn by hand, but the wont spin freely unlike the front wheels (is it normal for the rear wheels to be harder to turn bc RWD?). This happened after I changed the rear rotors and break pads. I drove it 2 times immediately after and the brakes were fine. It was on the third time when they started smoking and smelling. I took off the wheel and examined the break pad, caliper, break hose, and slide pins and everything was fine. Test drove it after and no smoke or smell. Additionally, there is a blue and orange burn ring on the rotor that was smoking. Was this a one time thing?
- Squeaky sound coming from the engine.
Things I have done to the car:
- Changed oil and oil filter
- Changed rear rotors and brake pads
- Cleaned MAF sensor.
- Got new rear tires.
- Got new battery
- Installed new third party stock headlights
PLEASE HELP!

There is a laundry list that can cause the check engine light to come on. ^ this.
Should be some drag at the rear wheels, b/c all the drivetrain components. Its not normal for any part of the brakes to start smoking really...
Did you adjust the emergency brake shoes + cable per the FSM? If the rotor is getting discolored due to heat, I'd bet the caliper or bracket is frozen. Are the pads able to move freely in the caliper bracket? Did you use new pad shims? Caliper grease?
If the car has been sitting for a while, probably worth it to replace ALL the fluids. Fresh fuel too.
