Broken Drivers door exterior handle

Today, when I went to get into my car 03 Sedan, I pulled on the drivers side exterior door handle and it broke off in my hand. It's pretty obvious that it broke around the pivot point on the inside of the door. So has anyone had this happen or had to replace their exterior door handles before? I started looking at replacements for just the chrome handle, but they all appear to come with the painted trim piece. Do I need to just purchase a handle set with the trim piece, remove the new handle from the trim and install it into my existing trim? I REALLY don't want to try and paint match the trim piece just for this. I did a search and went back several pages and didn't see anyone posting about this problem.

Thanks

Well that sucks, I don't think I've heard of a single broken handle ever.

I would check eBay for a used replacement in the same color.

it was definitely a surprise to me! I did find a few on eBay and ordered one that should be here this weekend. I’ll try and see if I can just take the handle off the trim piece so I don’t have to paint the replacement trim, but I’ll try and take a few pics along the way. Hopefully I don’t break anything else while I’m in there. Lol

I've never heard of that happening either on these cars. Good luck and please do take some pics.
