G35x timing cover
G35x timing cover
Hey all, new to the forum but having an issue thought I'd ask around. I have a 2004 g35X and am trying to replace the timing chain. I have the cover all loose (yes I got the bolts in the oil pan) but can't get it fully off. The bracket on the passenger side that holds the idler pulley and power steering pump is too close to the cover and I can't get the cover off enough to actually pull it out. It looks like the bracket bolts are buried deep under the exhaust manifold and I really don't want to go through all that when I'm this close. Not sure if this specific to the AWD or not but any advice is appreciated before I just cut the bracket in half.
There are two bolts at the bottom that are accessible with the oil pan removed. Don't forget those two.
Fortunately the entire Factory Service Manual for these cars is available at Nicoclub. They pay for the licensing on the FSM, you don't need an account to access it. I strongly recommend you download the entire FSM for your specific car.
Section EM - Engine Mechanical will have teardown of the engine.

Gotcha. Options include lifting the engine with an engine support bar or hoist after loosening engine mount crossmember nuts. This may give you enough room to get the bracket off
