Crank No Start, No Fuel, No RPMs
Crank No Start, No Fuel, No RPMs
Tried to start the car (2004 Manual Sedan) today after being out of town for a week, got the following:
Since I have no RPMs when trying to crank, I'm wondering if the problem is the crankshaft position sensor--but would it stop fuel delivery, and the engine sounds normal when started with starter fluid.
Any ideas?
- Cranks, no start
- Cannot hear fuel pump priming
- No DTC codes
- I get zero RPMs on the tachometer while cranking.
- Sprayed starter fluid in the intake --> it does start, but will die.
- Fuse pump fuse 15AMP is good.
- Fuse pump relay was swapped --> cranks, no start
Since I have no RPMs when trying to crank, I'm wondering if the problem is the crankshaft position sensor--but would it stop fuel delivery, and the engine sounds normal when started with starter fluid.
Any ideas?
To update...
I removed tested the crankshaft position sensor connector, it was getting power, and it was grounded correctly. I cleaned the terminals and removed the sensor and did diagnostics based on instructions from the FSM where you are supposed to get 0 or infinity across various pins. I was not getting 0 or infinity, so I bought a new sensor and used the holes in the plastic to test with the multimeter and got similar readings that were not aligned with the FSM. Maybe it has to be tested while still inserted. I dunno...
Anyway, I benched tested the fuel pump and it did not spin. I replaced the fuel pump motor and I could hear the pump prime when I turned the key to the ON position. I knew the car would start and after priming a few times, It started just fine
I guess the 0 rpms on the tachometer when cranking doesn't matter for this particular vehicle. I wonder if it's because of the manual transmission?
