cold start idle?

How long do you guys wait before driving the car when you start it cold? I usually wait until the rpm reaches at least 1K rpm which takes a couple minutes. Are you supposed to wait until it goes completely down to 650-700rpm?

As long as I don't need to de-fog or de-ice, I'll wait until the idle is down to about 1k to 1100 and drive off easy.
To wait until the idle goes down to 700 would take too long and waste gas.

The owner's manual says to wait 30 secs before driving off slowly. I usually wait about 1 minute. I live in California so the weather is not too cold, but if I live in snow country, I would wait longer.

I also wait for 30secs, according to the owner mnaul, before I drive under any condition. Even the engine is warmed up, the other parts of the car aren't during idle... so I guess 30 seconds is more than enough. I think this topic has been discussed before...

Depends on oil temperature, as oil doesn't lubricate very well till up above 150F.

That might take 5-10 minutes depending on external conditions, but most dump cars at 60k so ring and bearing wear are non issues at least to the first owner.

warm up

Get in the car, start it up... buckle up and then go. I drive slowly for a bit... I have 1 mile to the main roads and by then the temp is climbing.

On very cold days maybe 30 sec to a minute.. But it has to be dam cold like 10 degrees.
