My friend has it in his 330 and I love it. Its so much easier to use the touch screen. I don't like the stock navi much, but it is covered for 100,000 miles, so if it breaks, its not on my tab. If it was easy to install the Pioneer, I would have definatley gone that route.

There exists a "modification" that allows "your passenger" to perform these functions while driving, it involves putting a switch on the speed sensor for the NAV, I don't think it's hard to do. You might consider that before you consider an after-market navi system. - If you think that the stock Navi is good other than that nuance.

I don't agree. I used the touchsceen nav in a Pathfinder for 3 years. The touchscreen is faster at times because you don't have to scroll around looking for letters or functions but it requires undivided attention; you can't feel your way around because it is just a flat screen with no point of reference. I also had problems with the screen jumping to a letter or function I didn't want. [I assume it was heat sensitive and picked up my body heat before I actually hit the screen.]

To sum things up, I'm glad I got the nav but I think both versions stink for different reasons. I'd only jump to an aftermarket nav unit if it had much better input properties and/or voice recognition.

I agree. There is a precision with "hard controls" that touchscreens can't match. Although, I would've liked it better if there was a "enter" button, instead of having to push the joystick straight down.

Where could I get more information about this?

I asked about thed nav mod a while ago and someone posted general instructions [which I've pasted below] and another person sent a link for a how to with pictures. [I haven't tried the mod yet but I definitely will this summer.] That link appears to be dead now and I couldn't find a similar one doing a search. However, I may have saved the how to files on another pc. If I do have them I'll email you the files if you send me an email address. Once I figure out how to re-post them I'll do it.

Here are the general instructions that another user posted.

There is a way to do that. But, it requires cutting and splicing a wire on the back side of your NAV system, if you are comfortable with that sort of thing. There was a very good "DIY" instructional posted on here a while back. Do a search and see if you can find it. I think it was listed under "Navigation Bypass Switch".
You must remove your glove box to get to the back of your NAV system then cut a wire (I would tell you which one, but I can't remember . . . I have messed with so many wires on my car I can't remember which color ones were for what anymore).
You then splice extensions onto each end of the cut wire and run them to a switch which you flip when you want to fool the system into thinking the car is stopped, so you can program the NAV. Some people use the trunk bypass switch in the glove box as their new NAV switch. Others, myself included, just mount another switch somewhere closer to the driver's side and use it.
If you can't find the DIY and no one posts with the right wire to cut, post back and I will look through my old notes and see if I can be certain on which wire is the one to cut.
Good luck.

u can email them to me at rrpnow@gmail.com and i can host them... but the thing i dont like is the switch.. doesnt it just cut the speed wire in theory.. but i cut i mean break the circit... what does the speed sensor do besides, tell ur navi not to let u mess around whlie ur goin faster then 0mph? does it tell the car other stuff or wht?

It tells your car your speed. The navi uses several inputs to place you where it places you on the screen. One is from the satellite, one from the speed sensor, one from its own compass, etc. When you cut the wire, the Navi thinks the car has stopped, and won't update until the satellite signal is confirmed enough to override your position. When you reconnect the circuit, everything goes back to normal once the satellite picks up the signal. If you can't go the 5 seconds it takes to plug in a new address, then you don't need a navi, you need a navigator.
