Experience with dealership for purchasing, rip off?!!

so today, i went down to the only dealership in Hawaii, going down with the intent to special order a G35 Sedan 6mt since we know the GM for the local Nissan that owns the Infiniti dealership and a baby is coming in July. I get there, blah blah blah and test drive. So, then he goes in the back to work the numbers.
I ask him to do two figures: one with premium package A and another just as the base model. He comes back and shows me only one figure. He states that the G35 6mt can only be ordered with the premium package...i dont know if this is right or not, but it doesn't sound right to me. does anyone know about this??
So, the figure he gives me is with the Premium Package and aero package, $35160 +fees/taxes, total comes to $36,979! He then tells me that this is the lowest it can go since any nation wide Infiniti dealership cannot release their cars below MSRP. BS!!! If i were to order this i think i would be ripped off!!
I also asked him about the VPP program and he said that it is only for the wife of the employee. I told him there are different levels of VPP and his reply was he doesn't think so!
prices for lease is as follows:
12k 36mo. w/$1000 down
$556.74
any comments...
thanks.

Build your g35 online...

Go to the Infiniti website and build your g35 the way you want it and see if it lets you. I am 99.9% positive he is full of it or incorrect. Here is what I found from the Infiniti Website...

Colors Options Summary

Your Built Vehicle

2005 Infiniti G35

Total Configured MSRP† $32,210.00

Model: G35 6MT

Exterior: Brilliant Silver

Interior: Graphite Leather

Standard Features

• 298-hp engine

• Close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with short-throw shifter

• Dual mass flywheel

• Includes Sport-tuned Suspension Package

View all standard features

Packages and Options

Power Sunroof $1000

Accessories

None Selected

Base MSRP $30,600.00

Total Packages, Options, & Accessories $1,000.00

Destination & Handling $610.00

Total Configured MSRP† $32,210.00

I would find another dealer also because that VPP explanation he gave you is not correct either. I didn't know about it at the time I got my car but a co-worker got a g35x 2 months after me and got VPP pricing and my company only deals with Nissan?Infiniti. We're just an afilliate! Check out different dealers online and see the deals they are offering and you'll see that this person is incorrect or lying. Ex: WWW.RamseyInfiniti.com... check out their specials.Worst case scenario, go to AutoBytel and set your own terms on what you want to pay. Hope this helps

mdkip, thanks for the info..
i did try buidling the g35 6mt and i could get it without the premium, however i think he is just Bs'ing and i cannot find another local dealer unless its on the continental US.
we are going to try and see if we can get the VPP cuz we know the GM and we could at least get the lower level VPP.
But all i got to say is, they are making us feel like we are getting a good deal and they are getting paid a sh*t load!

I certainly don't "know," however it is my understanding that the vast majority of G35's are ordered with the premium package. There may well be a reluctance on the dealer's part to order a car that is not "mainstream" because if for any reason you should back out or otherwise be unable to go through with the purchase the dealer would be left with a car in your choice of color and other options that only a small segment of the market would opt for.

I got told the same thing on a 6mt coupe locally. That the car cannot be ordered without the premium package, it made me laugh. Yes you can order it without the premium package, they just don't want to do it, because it cuts off more profit from them because you aren't getting a pricy option. I don't want the premium package either. Just be prepared to wait a few months for it to arrive from Japan.

I bet he's just playing the ole' "I'm the only show in town" game. We deal with that a lot down here in Corpus Christi.

Fortunately, we don't have to catch a flight to increase our options..

Go over his head, that's all I can say. Get names and call corporate.

Having lived in Cuba for 2.5 years and now Corpus, I know what it's like not to have locally available options. Sux.

i agree with you guys and thanks for the responses. I located a few 6MT sedans without the premium package in cali and it just goes to show that they want more $$$ than credibility...wtf i was referred by the GM to these ******. We are waiting on a response from the GM for the VPP status. If all goes well i will make the order, forcing them for the base model 6MT.

What is the VPP Program? I have seen it mentioned a couple of times, but havent been able to find any info about it.

Is it the same as Nissan's VIP program? I am looking to buy a G with that when I start working this summer with Accenture, who is a member of the VIP program. This basically provides a prenegotiated 2.5% over dealer invoice for any car. Is this the same thing?

You CAN order what you want, but be prepaired to wait at least 4 months. That's what happened to me. I couldn't find what I wanted so, I ordered and that was in October. We took delivery in February. It was worth the wait!

PS: Remember WHERE you are. Islanders will ALWAYS pay a premium for everything.

from what i understand, VPP is good only for employees and their direct family (i.e. the GM's wife). i'm not so sure a friend can get the discount-- but i'm pulling for you, bro.

as far as getting the MT sedan, it can be done, but you would be a rarity here on the islands (hense their reluctance to special order one for you). Just don't take "no can" for an answer, show 'em you're a serious buyer, and eventually the salesman will get it through his thick head.

like others have said, you're gonna hafta wait more than a few months, and you have to put down a $500 deposit (that's their local policy).

good luck!

Sup Grizz-
There actually is a VPP for friends of employees, stated on the insidenissan website:

"For employees of NNA and Affiliate-companies and their immediate family members, the VPP price is calculated as follows:

For NNA and affiliate employee sponsored friends and extended family members, the VPP price is calculated as follows:"

Its just that the immediate family members get more off the invoice than friends/extended memebers...BUT still below MSRP

As of ordering a car, i know about the deposit as thats what i did with my s2k. I know i have to wait, but like i always thought "why pay for something they have when you can pay for what you want"

oh grizz, btw how much did u get your G for?
k shoots.

Since that's the only dealer in Hawaii, you are out of luck. Based on your story, the SOB has a real attitude issue by presuming ALL customers are ill-informed and don't have any knowledge I would not give them the pleasure of doing business with them. I would give the dealer my business when he treats with respect. My 0.02
