synthetic oil yes, no?

I've owned two Nissan Maxima's, and both of them were/are going strong on conventional motor oil. Obviously changing the oil regularly is far more important that what type of oil you use. My dealer uses a synthetic blend (5w-30), so all the better.

Switched over to Mobil 1 at 1500 mi. w/a K&N filter. Dumped first load at 4,000 miles and plan to change every 5,000 thereafter. I also do a Blackstone oil test (with TBN) every other change. Don't buy into the concept that you can't start early w/synthetic and that ya gotta "break your car in" first. Most every big hp. euro/American exotic (Viper,Vet,Masseratti,Ferrari, etc.) on the market comes with Mobil 1 already in place. I've always run synthetic in my auto transport tractors and my personal vehicles with great success. I actually put over 250,000 miles on a Ford Festiva "commutation special" and sold it ...only to see it make another 80,000 mi. See ya

Synthetics can provide a wider range of viscosity (like 5W-50 or similar) that may be required by really high performance engines for various reasons like bearing velocity, bearing material, bearing clearance, etc. Also, synthetics can survive tough environments better (like heat, contamination, etc.) but if your using the recommended oil and change intervals, you won't get the benefits of synthetic if your manual doesn't require or recommend it.
