Question synthetic oil yes, no?

Im getting almost due for my first oil change. I have always been a fan of synthetic oil years ago but how many of you use it in your infiniti,, if no, why not?

i've always used it in my past cars as well.

find a # and then toss it in the G.

my number is 10k miles (this will let the engine and seals break in properly)

Every 'expert' out there will tell you something different on this subject.
It's always been a 'yes' for me .. if for nothing else for the superior protection in harsh climates. I went 18K without any oil change (ya ya, i know :-P) -- I don't think I could have pulled that off with regular oil.

You have nothing to lose..its better just to wait 10-15K miles before using fully sythetic oil..let the seals break in n stuff...I am waiting till 15K miles before i start using Mobil 1 = )

I have been using full synthetic mobil one since the first oil change. The car never uses oil and I change it every 3000 - 4000 miles. I think it is better and may start going 5000 miles as I hear it is a waste to change it so frequently. I fanyone gets my car as a preowned, they will be very lucky...any takers?(LOL)

You could go a lot longer than 5000 miles, more than double that.
But I'm no going to give you advice. Next time you change it, send a sample off to Blackstone Labs and give them $20 to analyze it. My bet is that they'll tell you it's fine, and that you are wasting $ changing it so early.

Not for anything, but changing synthetic every 3-4k is definetly a waste of your money. Being a former a mechanic, I know you can go between 5 & 10k on synthetic oil before a change. The higher the milage the closer to 5k it should be changed... for the most part on newer cars 10k is acceptable

The problem is not the oil -- it's the filter. It won't last 10K miles .. ;-)

Very true. I swap the filter every 6 months independent of mileage on all my vehicles and I use Amsoil filters, Mobil 1 filters are awesome as well. Sometimes my oil changes consist of swapping the filter and topping off the oil for whatever I lost. 12-15k is very, very doable, even in a performance car. Get the lab results

Ya know, I've begun to question the value of synthetic oil. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that it works "better" than traditional motor oil. I also believe that if you use castrol 5w-30 and change it every 3,750 miles (per the manual) that you will have no problem getting at least 150K solid miles out of your G35.

I've owned two Nissan Maxima's, and both of them were/are going strong on conventional motor oil. Obviously changing the oil regularly is far more important that what type of oil you use. My dealer uses a synthetic blend (5w-30), so all the better.

I believe 0W-30 would be better for our cars
